The unripe fruits of Rubus chingii (Rosaceae), referring to "Fu-pen-zi" in Chinese, have been used as a food and tonic in traditional Chinese medicine. In order to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of its effective physiological constituents and provide scientific basis of producing medicine reasonably, a phytochemical study has been carried out.Twenty-seven compounds were isolated from the methanol extract of the fruits of Rubus chingii by various column chromatography. On the basis of various modern spectroscopic analysis (1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, HMQC, HMBC, EI-MS, FAB-MS, ESI-MS) and classical chemical methods, twenty-five of them were determined, of which twenty-three were isolated from the plant for the first time and six were isolated from the genus Rubus for the first time.Among the compounds, nine are pentacyclic triterpene acids, six flavonoids. The structures of them as follows: butyl dosocanoate (Rc-1) , lacceroic acid (Rc-2) , pentacosanol (Rc-3 ), stigmast-4-ene-3β,6α-diol (Rc-4), β-sitosterol (Rc-5 ), hexacosyl p-coumarate (Rc-6), oleanolic acid (Rc-7), ursolic acid (Rc-8), maslinic acid (Rc-9), 2α-hydroxyursolic acid (Rc-10) , arjunic acid (Rc-11) , euscuphic acid (Rc-12) , 2α,3α,19α-trihydroxyolean-12-ene-28-oic acid (Rc-13) , sericic acid (Rc-14) , hyptatic acid (Rc-15) , daucosterol (Rc-16) , stearic acid (Rc-17) , 4-hydroxybenzonic acid(Rc-18) ,tiliroside (Rc-19) , kaempferol (Rc-20) , quercetin (Rc-21) , astragalin(Rc-22) , isoquercitrin (Rc-23) , kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucuronic acid methyl ester(Rc-24) , hentriacontane (Rc-25) . In this study, a capillary electrophoresis (CE) method modified with β-cyclodextrin(β-CD) is developed for the separation of the pentacyclic triterpene acids from the fruits of Rubus chingii for the first time.
