Restin was a novel gene isolated in the lab of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from differentiation cancer cell induced by all-trans retinoic acid in 1999, and its molecular functions were not well understood. Chomez and his colleagues also found this gene by homologous sequence splicing in the database of gene bank in 2001 and named it as MAGE-H1. It was mainly expressed in terminally differentiated cells. By stable transfection of Restin into cancer cell, the cells were arrested in G1 phase and the cell proliferation was inhibited. It implies that Restin could be correlated to cell cycle regulation.
