| Myocardial Infarction (MI) can effect the autonomic nervous system and the heart rate variability( HRV),and HRV, in turn,can influence the results for predicting MI when using noninvasive procedures.But how the many measures of HRV and there circadian rhythm change at different times after acute MI and how the pathophysiology of HRV can be assessed from 24 hours electrocardiogram recordings are still unclear.Furthermore,there are few reports on how the use of drugs for long periods affects HRV evaluation. Our study was designed to investigate these questions. A series of 118 patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) were studied consecutively in our hospital. The controls were 50 healthy volunteers. 17 in-hospital and 6 out-of-hospital patients died.The patients had 24- h ECG recordings within 48 hours(average 19 hours,85 cases), the 3-rd week (average 20 days,96 cases) of the AMI onset. 101 survivors discharged,and were randomly divided into three groups according to the drug treatment: atenolol group, enalopril group and treatment control group. The follow-up rate was 98% (period 1 to 21 months).
