Gentianopsis paludosa (Hook.f.) Ma is an annually growing herb found in the northwest region of China. The whole herb is used for the treatment of hypertension, gastroenteritis and diarrhoea in indigenous medicine. In this thesis, the chemical constituents and bioactivities of Gentianopsis paludosa were reported. The main research results are as follows:1. The chemical constituents of Gentianopsis paludosa were studied. 23 compounds were isolated from the whole herb and 18 compounds of them were elucidated on the basis of physics and chemistry methods, spectral analysis, mass spectrum and the comparison with the known samples. Fourteen compounds were isolated from Gentianopsis paludosa for the first time, in these compounds, there is a new compound, a new natural product, 9 compounds isolated from Gentianopsis genus for the first time.2. The anti-diarrhoeal activity of Gentianopsis paludosa was studied. These results suggest that Gentianopsis paludosa possesses anti-diarrhoeal activity, which may be attributed to its inhibition of intestinal motility through interference with Ca2+ movement. The activity of the chloroform fraction was the best using the isolated ileum experiment. In the tested compounds, only luteolin inhibited the isolated ileum and it may be the active constituent of Gentianopsis paludosa for the anti-diarrhoeal activity.3. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of Gentianopsis paludosa were tested using disc diffusion and mycelial growth rate methods respectively. The results...
