Background: sympathetic nerve sprouting plays an important role in arrhythmogenesis and sudden cardiac death. However, mechanisms of underlying arrhythmia by sympathetic nerve sprouting are still unknown. Structural and electrical remodeling are basic arrhythmogenesis changes in patients suffer from sudden cardiac death. This study was designed to determine weather sympathetic nerve sprouting could also induce structural and electrical remodeling.Methods: Twenty Japanese white rabbits are randomized into three groups. Sympathetic nerve sprouting was induced by injection of nerve growth factor(NGF) into cardiac, and sham operation serve as controls. Thirteen days after operation, all rabbit underwent electrophysiological test. Immunocytochemical staining for Tyrosine hydroxylase(TH) and growth-associated protein-43(GAP43) was performed to study the density of sympathetic nerves. TNF-a level was measured by ELISA.
