Rationale: To explore the molecular mechanisms in the airway inflammation and mucus hypersecretion induced by intratracheal instillation of LPS. To examine the effect of 14-membered ring macrolide on airway mucus hypersecretion stimulated with LPS.Methods: Rat airway mucus hypersecretion was induced by intratracheal instillation of LPS. Rats treated with or without LPS were orally administered with roxithromycin (1-10 mg/kg), josamycin (10 mg/kg), or amoxicillin (40 mg/kg) for 4 days. Histopathology examination of lung tissue section stained with H&E and AB-PAS. Protein, mucins, IL-1β, IL-8 and TNF-α in BALF were assayed with Bradford method, ELLA and ELISA.
