I. Basis of the researchShank ulcers are frequently treated diseases in the departments of dermatology and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) surgery that can be contributed to various etiological factors, among which the vascular diseases caused shank ulcers occupy more than 70 per cent, including three types of varicose ulcer, arterial ulcer and vasculitis ulcer; more than 10 kinds of dematological diseases. Moreover, there are nervous ulcer, physical ulcer as well as infectious ulcer and hematopathical ulcer, ect. The clinical therapies for them are time consuming and refractory, and there is a lack of effective therapy for them.At present, the domestic reports about the therapies for shank ulcers in the field of western medicine are focused on insulin, prostaglandin, epidermal growth factor, conjugated protein, fructose 1,6-bisphosphate, basic fibroblast growth factor, hyaluronic acid, sodium ferulate, ect, whose problems of time-consuming, high cost and safety remain unsolved. Additionally, the understanding of indications for surgical amputation is closely correlated with the cognition level of surgeons, which may bring about unnecessary problems to the patients. Therefore, the finding of heal promoting therapies with advantages of low cost, good therapeutic efficacy and safety is an important research topic both internationally and domestically in the field of medicine.It is believed in TCM that shank ulcers are ecthyma that is described in many...
