The thesis aimed to establish the deserved dominant roles of the kidney in Ophthalmology of Traditional Chinese Medicine by combination of both literature study and clinical experience of Ophthalmology. Theoretically, with systemic and comprehensive study of ancient and contemporary literature combined with the author's medical practice, the dominating position of the kidney concerning the formation, development, visual physiology of the eye and pathogenesis of Ophthalmology, as well as the guiding role for clinical therapy were clarified physiologically and pathologically. The clinical study mainly focused on the basis and application of the method of consolidating the kidney and supplementing essence as a basic therapy of Ophthalmology. Then the theory of"the kidney dominating the eye"was brought forward. The key point emphasized the fact that the kidney acts as a dominator of the eye and has more to do with the eye compared with the other organs while the traditional whole conception and the relationship between the eyes and the Five Organs were insisted. The thesis also pointed out that the theory of"the liver open into the eyes"was established on the basis of special relationship between the liver and the kidney, and the liver's physiological functions was the outward expression of the kidneys'and the pathogenesis of the liver the results of the kidney's dysfunction. It would inevitably became nonsense to discuss the physiology, pathogenesis of the eye and the relationship between the eye the liver, as well as clinical therapy without considering the kidney. Meanwhile, with the basic physiological function of storing essence, deficient essence of the kidney was characteristic of eye's basic pathogenesis of the kidney and the eye, which might possibly be followed by a series of related pathological mechanism. Therefore the opinions that the treatment of the eye diseases should pay more attention tothe kidney, and that consolidating the kidney and supplementing essence should be regarded as the fundamental therapy was suggested, which should go through the whole process of the diseases. With this principle, it would be helpful in clinical practice. The creative ideas and the traditional theories supplemented and supported each other. Besides, the thesis also presented some new ideas valuable theoretically and practically. Hopefully, this thesis could eventually enrich the theoretic system and promoted the therapeutic methods of Ophthalmology of Traditional Chinese Medicine in order to provide some new opinions and means to promote clinical efficacy. |
