The aetiology and pathogenesis of psoriasis are still unknown. Thegenetic basis is evident, and the environmental factors contribute to the onset of the disease. Today, the treatment of psoriasis has not been successfully predictable. One of the greatest challenges dermatologists currently face is managing a medically effective strategy that is cost-effective enough to patients. We clinically investigated the health-related quality of life of patients and examined effects of the Chinese Medicine, Berberine, Emodin and Baicalin on HaCaT cells by cell culture. This study was divided into two parts with six chapters.Part I: Development and Investigation of the Questionnaire of Health-related quality of Patients with Psoriasis vulgarisA questionnaire of health-related quality of patients with psoriasis vulgaris was developed and applied to 504 outpatients with psoriasis vulgaris of primary and recurrent onset (age of more than 18 years) in Dec 2000—Sept 2001. We investigated the severity-related factors of psoriasis and the impact of psoriatic severity on quality of life of patients with psoriasis vulgaris. The following were included: daily life and activities, work and schooling, social activities and personal relationships, psychology. Psoriatic severity score was calculated by Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI). Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS package.According to the clinical investigation, it was found that: (1) There only one peak on the age of onset in psoriasis vulgaris. (2) The aggravating factors of psoriasis vulgaris were alcohol intake, trauma, monthly medical expense, and their affordability. (3) 63. 3% patients were limited in diet , 40.2% patients slumber were influenced markedly, about 59.0% patients could not wear the short-sleeve clothes or short skirt in summer, 26. 5% patients refused to take public service, 15. 1% patients...
