The human leukocyte-associated immunoglobulin-like receptor-1 (hLAIR-1) gene was cloned in 1997 and the monoclonal antibodies to LAIR-1 was designated as CD305 in the 8th International Workshop and Conference on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens in 2004. LAIR-1 was first discovered in 1983 and identified as an inhibitory molecule in CTL, NK and macrophage-mediated cytotoxicity. Human LAIR-1 is expressed in majority of hematopoietic cells including NK cells, T cells, B cells, monocytes, dendritic cells, thymocytes as well as CD34+ herratopoietic progenitors, suggesting it may play a key role in hematopoiesis and immunological functions of variety of hematopoietic cells.Murine LAIR-1 (mLAIR-1) is the homologue molecule of hLAIR-1 in mouse. We first cloned the full length (Genbank accession number: AF479685) of mLAIR-1 cDNA in 2002 and shown that mLAIR-1 shares 40% homology to hLAIR-1 at amino acide level. MLAIR-1 gene maps to the proximal end of mouse chromosome 7 in a region similar to human chromosome 19q 13.4 where the leukocyte receptor gene complex is located. The full length ORF of the mLAIR-1 cDNA encodes 263 amino...
