Parkinson's disease (PD) is a kind of progressive neurodegenerative disease, in which the basal ganglia dysfunction could be involved. When the supply of dopamine is depleted, the function of the basal ganglia is disrupted and its ability to control movement deteriorates thus cause resting tremor, rigidity and bradykinesia, the major symptoms of the disease. Since 1996, posteroventral pallidotomy (PVP) has reemerged as a popular treatment for Parkinson's disease. Gradually, microelectrode recording is used to verify the anatomic target of the globus pallidus during the operation.Basal ganglia are brain region involved in motor control and movement. Basal ganglia dysfunction involves dysfunction of the basal ganglia, such as Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, and Saint Vitus ' dance and so on. Meanwhile, the globus pallidus is a very important part in this region, and the posteroventral pallidus is widely used as the target for radio-frequency therapy for Parkinson's disease. So we choose the globus pallidus as a breakthrough to the study of the whole basal ganglia. In order to identify the firing patterns of single neural cell that recorded from the GPi of patients with PD during the stereotactic operation, we...
