Lung cancer not only is the most frequent neoplasm but also has become a predominant cause of cancer-related death in our country. During several decades, although there are many improvements in the management of lung cancer, yet the effects are not satisfactory. The major causes are due to difficulty of early diagnosis, resistance of tumor cells to chemotherapeutic drugs and relapse after effect treatment. Therefore, there is an urgent need for some new markers good for early diagnosis, select ion of treatment and estimation of prognosis. The development and progression of lung cancer is regarded as a multi-step process of genetic changes, and its molecular biology is very complex. The oncogenes, suppressor genes and multidrug resistant genes are involved in the initiation and progression of lung cancer. The exploration of the changes of genes and cooperation between them in human cancer will contribute to elucidation of malignant transformation of lung cancer and prediction of the prognosis for patients with lung cancer.
