(?) INTRODUCTION:Survival and development are tvo major concerns related to child health. In the vest, as a result of the conquest of major infectious and nutritional deficiency diseases in childhood and a decline in infant mortality, the problem of survival in childhood vas settled by and large, and increasing emphasis in pediatrics has been given to child development in these countries. The notion that development is an important component of child health has been vell accepted.Vith social progress and the formation of the "only child" generation in China, optimal development has been drawing more attention than ever. As nutritional and infectious diseases become less urgent health problems in developed areas of China, emphasis in child health will be gradually shifting to the role of the veil-child care practitioner as a family counselor on all aspects of child care—mental as vell as physical well-being. There is a challenge to explore a suitable way to promote full-development of Chinese children through a child health supervision system.The aim of the present study vas to investigate ecological and biological factors related to toddler's mental development, and to evaluate tvo pediatric developmental interventions. In view of methodological drawbacks in evaluation of developmental interventions, in this paper we set out to use epidemiological and statistical methods to probe the relationship of developmental intervention, home environment and the development quotient, so as to clarify whether the effect of intervention is mediated by home environment or acts directly on development quotient.The following questions are what we attempted to ansver in this paper:(1) Is the development quotient correlate of physical measures in early childhood ?(2) Do periodic developmental assessments and advice-giving...
