Objective To study the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) against myocardial ischemia reperfusion injure and the possible functional pathways. Methods Rabbits were divided into four groups: sham operating group, model group, EA at Neiguan points group, EA at Lieque points group. Myocardial ischemia reperfusion injure model was produced by ligaturing anterior descending branch of left coronary artery for 30 minutes and perfusing for 60 minutes in rabbits.The content of MDA> GSH-PX in myocardium, the content of B-EP in medullary bulb, apoptosis, expression of Bax, Bcl-2, ICAM-1 after ischemia reperfusion and effects on above items of EA were observed. Results (1) EA could significantly reduce the content of MDA in ischemia reperfusion injure myocardium of rabbits (p<0.05), significantly increase the activity of GSH-PX in ischemia reperfusion injure myocardium of rabbits (p<0,01, p<0.05).(2) EA could significantly reduce the number of myocardial cell apoptosis (p<0.01, p<0.05). (3) EA could significantly reduce the expression of Bax (p<0.01), significantly promote the expression of Bcl-2 in ischemia reperfusion injure myocardium (p<0.01, p<0.05). (4) EA could significantly reduce the expression of ICAM-1 in ischemia reperfusion injure myocardium (p<0.01). (5) EA could significantlyreduce the content of B-EP in medullary bulb of rabbits with ischemia reperfusion injure myocardium(p<0.01, p<0.05). Conclution Oxygen free radical, apoptosis, cell adhesion molecule participate in MIRI. EA has the effect against MIRI. This effect of EA could be carried out by following ways : Reduce the myocardium injure by oxygen free radical. Decrease the number of myocardial cell apoptosis. Reduce the expression of ICAM-1. Reduce the content of P桬P in medullary bulb.By the above ways EA could effectively prevent the myocardial ischemia reperfusion injure.
