Operation for Cervical spinal stenosis(CSS) and cervical spondylotic myelopathy with CSS, which usually included partial vertebrectamy and removal of intervertebral disc and bone fragments protruding into the canal, could relive the symptoms resulting from local pressure, but had no apparent effect on lessening the stress on spine cord and the lateral area of spine canal. Furthermore, those operations had possibilities of fracture and reoperation, and were net absolutely satisfactory we designed an operation, which enlarged the canal by slotting and unfurling the vertebral body, to relieve the canal pressure enlarge the sagittal diameter, the anterior and lateral area of the canal, and eliminate the abnormal and non-physiological stress. we used five fresh cadaveric cervical spines, slotted the anterior parts of the vertebral bodies unfurled the anterior edges for 3mm, 5mm, 7mm and 10mm respectively measured the related diameters and areas of the bone canals by CT .Results suggested that the canal transverse diameters and the areas were increased apparently, the areas were enlarged apparently (about 2041mm2) .The operation may enlarge the canal area, transverse dialneter and sagittal diameter, eliminate the abnormal stress on cord., and relieve the local pressure.
