Being important decomposers, soil animals play an important role in ecosystem. The North of Da Xinganling Mountains is located in cool temperate zone, the research on soil animals is also extremely weak, and there are still many blank aspects. Showing fauna composition and ecological geography rule of soil animals as important decomposer group, discussing the intrinsic relationship between environment and soil animals which are considered as stable indication factors of environment, and forming integral fauna list have the vital significance to the development of soil zoology and the ecology; Da Xinganling Mountains is a typical area which proves to be important geography significance in northernmost China, athwart temperate zone and the cool temperate zone, which is geography boundary of forest and steppe in the west and east sides. The temperature is relatively lower, the soil assumes to be acidity or weak acidity, activity of microorganism is weaker, the decomposition rate of matter is lower, and there are many surface organic matters accumulating, which are able to accelerate the appearance of fire and insect disaster, and are disadvantageous to material circle and advance of organism productivity in forest ecosystem. Thus, taking soil animals as research object, we should discuss and seek effective method to promote the material circle in cool temperate zone area, which can provide basic data and theory for scientific and effective management of forest ecosystem.Researching on soil animals of forest ecosystem in Da Xinganling Mountains, we have conducted the system research to soil fauna and function of soil animals, mainly integrating the method of widespread investigation, the fixed-point dynamic monitor and manual control experiment. The findings show that:1)Soil animals of forest ecosystem in Da Xinganling Mountains belonged to 84 families, 23orders, 10 classes and 5 phyla.2)A comparative study on meso/micro-soil animals was conducted on the east and the west slope in Da Xinganling Mountains, which showed that individual numbers, group numbers and rare group numbers on the west slope were much richer than those on the east slope. Furthermore, a comparative study on four pairs of plots in different altitudes showed that individual density of macro-soil animals was the richest in the northernmost area, and the individual numbers and group numbers of meso/micro-soil animals was much richer in the middle part of Da Xinganling Mountains, and much poorer in the northernmost and southernmost area, the individual density was the poorest in the pair of plots (Tahe(d) and...
