Grassland fire disasters are devastating burning of grasslands that bring some loss tograssland ecosystem and people. Grassland fire disasters occur suddenly, they can dogreat harm to stock raising and the economy of pasturing areas, threaten the people'slives. It is very important to effectively performing works of grassland fire disastermonitoring and early warning.Remote sensing can do lots of works in grassland fire disaster monitoring and earlywarning, and it has its special potential. Remote sensing can monitor large areas, hashigh temporal and spatial resolution. Especially, the MODIS data considered theproblems about fire monitoring when it was designed, it is very suitable for obtainingrelative information of grassland fire, and it costs low, can be used to do nearlyreal-time grassland fire monitoring. We do some works about the remote sensingstudy in grassland fire disaster monitoring and early warning methods. These worksare listed below:After analyzing the characteristics of MODIS data and a fire detection algorithm ofthe MODIS fire product, combing the Chinese north grassland conditions, wemodified the previous algorithm, then the modified algorithm is analyzed and tested,and it is suitable for daytime grassland fire detection.Using MODIS data, a grassland productivity calculation method based on a remotesensing NPP product is discussed. Then we used this method to calculate indexes ofChinese grassland productivity yearly. The results can be used in grassland firedisaster loss evaluation in the next year.Using MODIS data, combining GIS technology and relative data, a Grassland FireDanger Index using remote sensing is constructed, the index need no meteorologicaldata; can be calculated every ten days; through grading and mapping, it can provideearly warning information of Chinese north grassland fire.Based on the works above, a technological flow of grassland fire monitoring and earlywarning processing is summarized; using this flow, a grassland fire remote sensing...
