With the development of economy and society, dampers are used as a common measure for vibration reduction of long-span cable stayed bridge. Factors, that people care about who want to use damper, are not only performance, but also economy, time, beauty and maintenance. But so far, studies on inclined-cables are focused on performance of dampers at home or abroad, other factors that impact on the application of dampers are relatively backward. The companies who want to use dampers are facing the difficulty that there is no basis to tell you how to install the right damper that suits for your needs. It is an urgent engineering problem to give comprehensive and objective evaluations to dampers, which have many influent factors and connect with each other, arrange the quality of dampers under all indexes and provide a reference to the bridge which needs to install dampers for inclined-cables.The followings are main works and achievements of this paper:(1) Through test,literature search, telephone, mail, on-the-spot investigation and so on, we systematically summarized the vibration damper's mechanism, design method, experimental research and practical application situation, extract a variety of factors that affect the damper applications. And combining with the damper market demand, we firstly submit the concept of comprehensive evaluation for damper choice.(2) According to the extracted factors, we preparatory set the damper evaluation index system for type choice, and then, we filter the evaluation index system by principal component analysis and fuzzy prioritization method. We firstly establish a evaluation index system for type choice of dampers used in inclined-cables, as the damper appraisal platform.(3) By studying the methods about how to determine the index weight and combining with targets damper characteristics, firstly we use the Delphi and AHP methods on the weight determine of the inclined-cable damper evaluation index. Also, to resolve the problems,which are caused when we use AHP method to calculate the target weights,such as time-consuming, error-prone manual, data collection, a huge issue and so on, we use common commercial software Matlab to compiled AHP weighting procedures. And established a cable-stayed damper evaluation system.(4) By studying the evaluation method and combining with the purpose of evaluation and characteristics of damper evaluation index, four methods that base on differrent theory are applied to evaluate dampers of inclined-cables:overall evaluation, sub-item scoring weighted evaluation, fuzzy comprehensive evaluation, analytic hierarchy process combinating with fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. Based on large number of suggestions of dampers,we make evaluations on dampers that work in inclined cables at present by four methods.Theory of serial number summation and mode theory aid to syncretize the results of various evaluation methods and get damper evaluation score from high to low. Multi-factor comprehensive evaluation give order by evaluation score under indicator of reliable, economic,Time landscape and maintenance.The evaluation results provide references for Ningbo Xiangshan Port Bridge to select the tipe of dampers used in inclined-cable.
