The main point of this study is to looking for calibration of methanol or ethanol applied in SI and CI engine.Based on the analysis of calibration of diesel and gasoline and new energy for engine, this study brings forward neural networks and Fuzzy Logic control applied in calibration of transient state operation and steady state operation of alcohol engine from the bench test to the road test, which establish the solid foundation for alcohol popularization and application. The applied alcohol in this study includes the methanol and ethanol injected into the CI engine as compound combustion respectively, the methanol dissociated into hydrogen gas and carbon monoxide substitutes for gasoline in SI engine. The electronic control unit (ECU) to fullfil these function is based on freescale MC9S12 microcontroller; the calibration system has achieved communication of ECU and personal computer based on controller area network(CAN) protocol. In order to operate alcohol engine under ECU, the calibration of sensors and actuators, the maps for automation of engine operation with better fuel economy and less emission and the maps for vehicle traveling are all required. This study modified a turbocharged diesel engine with six cylinders to an alcohol-injection engine according to the needs of calibration and discussed and optimized the calibration parameters to have an effect on fuel economy, emission and dynamics. A steyr truck adapted into dual fuel engine was operated on different road conditions and load conditions while fully frequency statistical analysis of conditions has been given. Testing for fuel consumption per hundred kilometers is used to improve the maps stored in the memory of ECU; a fully Electronical controlled SI engine adapted into dissociated gas from methanol has achieved automation operation based on calibration test. The study show that fuel economy of alcohol engine is generally superior to that of diesel engine and gasoline engine, besides the emission is also improved. it is required to calibrate based on the replacement rate of methanol or else too high or too low replacement rate will lead to deterioration of fuel economy for dual fuel engine.Increase of replacement rate won't bring about a change on the fuel economy when the engine load comes to a certain degree. The NOx emission of achohol engine decreased universally, especially in medium and low load conditions while the NOx emission has little change with more ethanol under the high load conditions. Therefore it should be designed to disminish the quantity of ethanol under high speed condition, otherwise NOx emission will not decrease but HC emission increase. The HC and CO emission increase greatly with no Catalytic Oxidation, especially in medium and low load conditions.although by the Catalytic Oxidation, they are lower than the diesel engine and meeting Euroâ…¢standard. The ethanol engine has a whole low level of soot while the only work is to decrease soot emission under full load conditions. The calibration for engine under transient state operate show that the methanol engine can decrease soot emission with the two-dimensional maps optimized by Neural networks modual and one-dimesional maps by Fuzzy control modual. The vehicle road test in Shanghai and other place show that the methanol engine and vehicle can acquire a pretty fair performance especially in fuel economy. Moreover the replacement rate of methanol is between 20 percent and 40 percent while the rate of methanol in the dual fuel engine to substituted diesel is between 1.6 and 2.2.Throughout this study the alchohol engine can reach better fuel economy and emission by calibration and modual optimization. The results show that a great deal of work in the bench test and road test is beneficial to the alcohol's application and extension.
