With the shortage of construction lands in present Shanghai, high-rise apartments have become the trend of development for residential buildings, especially like the 10 to 15-storey buildings which have been increasing rapidly and become the mainstream. The solar energy application technology in low and multi-storey apartment has become more matured in China, but that in high-rise apartment in high-density urban is expected to be started imminently. Therefore, high-rise apartments in Shanghai are taken as the research subject in this paper, and solar energy as the "bridge" for architecture to solar energy technology, and outside surface as the basic point for integrated design of solar energy systems.First of all, survey and test of rise-high apartments in Shanghai for indoor thermal environment and energy consumption has been carried on in recent two years, the result shows that their indoor thermal environment is poor in winter and summer, and their electricity consumption is mainly for the residents to improve the indoor thermal environment. With the improvement of the living standard, the residential energy computation is increasing, which brings the enormous pressure for the urban environment. rise-high apartments in future are proposed that not only needs to save energy, but also needs to use renewable energy.then, compare study on solar energy resources in Shanghai and that in Northern Region of China, European as well as North America area, and review on the present status or experience of global solar energy industry, market as well as policy, solar energy applying feasibility and slow development reason for high-rise apartments in Shanghai are discussed deeply.In the theory, this paper explained the conception of buildings' surface from developing foresight. Based on the systematic thinking and ecology principle, the integrated design is proposed to satisfy the need of indoor comfortable condition, follow principle of total design, and combine solar energy system and architecture design, and then achieve the purpose of energy-saving and environmental protection. The design operational way is discussed conformity from the optimization of solar energy technology and the multilevel design method to the policy leading mechanism.The core part of the paper is to go deeper into the "the integrated design" in a practicable level. The sunshine duration of southern surface of high-rise apartments is calculated mainly by using "HYSUN" software simulation in Shanghai architectural sunshine distance. The solar system integration design is emphatically analyzed by the operation principle and system characteristic of the current popular solar water heating system, and a real case of high-rise apartment use solar energy is discussed, finally the method, style, and construction detail of the integrated design for combing solar energy and the roof, wall, balconies and sunshade of Shanghai high-rise apartments is studied.Based on the above analysis, the author put forward the idea of "intergraded design" in shanghai high-rise apartments use solar energy, together with its design way and practice methods in detail, and developed new fa(?)ade of shanghai high-rise apartments from design view. The result of the research has not only active meaning in ecological high-rise apartments but also offers, by all means, endless resources for the architects in their solar building's creation.
