A quantitative study is made on the landscape structure of Shugang-Slender West Lake Scenic spot of Yangzhou City.This study is centralized on the landscape ecological planning of this area and directed by theories of landscape ecology and forest ecology, and supported by remote sense and geography information system. Some problems in the building of the landscape are discussed by analyzing the landscape pattern, ecological process and the ecological suitability of this area. This study is aimed at providing some scienfic evidence for any possible new planning of this area. Major study results are as follows:1. Supported by the GIS technique, the paper studies landscape spatial feature, the greenbelt landscape spatial feature and the grades and distribution of the patches in Shugang-Slender west lake scenic spot, the results shows:(1) In Shugang-Slender west lake scenic spot, the area of the agriculture landscape is largest which covered 39.47% of the total area, the area of the public park covered 9.77%, and proportion of the area of horniness landscape is large, which shows the use of the land will be adjusted in the scenic spot.(2) There are 2979 patches whose area is 6528227.0 m~2 and covers 53.36% of the total area in Shugang-Slender west lake scenic spot. The small patches (<500 m~2 in area) take advantage in number but the medium-lame size patches and large size patches (>3000 m~2 in area) take advantage in area although their number is less. In Shugang-Slender west lake scenic spot, the landscape pattern index shows the distribution of the landscape is uneven, fragmentation is less and diversity is not large.(3) In the research area, the rivers, lakes and pools are main wetland landscape whose area covered 15.49% of the total area. The area of the wetland is 2412661.7 m~2 and covered 19.73% of the study area. The landscape pattern index shows the shape of the wetland patches was disturbed seriously by people which made their shape like square. The type of the wetlands is rich and the landscape diversity is large.(4) The paper lodged the principles and ideas in planning and designing urban wetland landscape with rich legacy of history & culture by the analysis of site. Common problems exist in design and exploitation of wetland landscapes was discussed.2. The spatial features and attribute data of urban forests in Slender West Lake were acquired by using satellite photographs and field investigation.
