Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive diagnosis method which can reflect various kinds of information. It has been widely used in the field of medical diagnostic and basic scientific researches. Recently, some domestic companies have been manufacturing whole body MRI system. But most of the key components in MRI system, especially the spectrometer, depend on import from overseas. Generally speaking, many MRI system manufacturers often purchase RF amplifier and gradient amplifier from the third party company, but they rarely buy the spectrometer. The competition between MRI system manufacturers depends mostly on the design of the spectrometer.For the purpose of promoting the research work in our laboratory, we have involved a project of making a home-made MRI system. The important task is obviously the investigation and design of the spectrometer. The development of the latest digital integrated circuit laid a profound basis on the research of the digital spectrometer. The paper is involved in the research of the digital spectrometer and focused on the software development for the digital spectrometer and application. The main contents of the paper include:1. The hardware structure of the digital spectrometer. The hardware structure, principle and function of the digital spectrometer were simply introduced. The digital spectrometer consists of a personal computer and four PCI-based printed-circuit cards. The four PCI-based cards are individually the pulse sequence generator, the RF waveform generator, the gradient waveform generator and the digital receiver.2. The software for the digital spectrometer. This chapter first introduced the design requirement of the spectrometer software, and then gave the detailed description about the implementation and function of the all modules in the spectrometer software. The spectrometer software consists of the graphical pulse sequence programming environment, hardware control unit, data process/display unit and DCOM communication interface.
