Most of the drinking water sources in our country are heavy polluted. These types of source water are hard to reach high standards after they are treated by current water plant techniques. Dual water supply is a newly-developed field to supply drinking water with high quality. However, there are many problems both in theory and techniques for dual water supply, which have limited its development. On the base of the study on deep treatment, disinfection technique and tube design, the techniques of automatic control and remote on-line Monitor were developed. The following main results have been achieved:(1). According to the micro-pollutant characteristics of the water from the Pearl River Delta, a new combination deep treatment system equipped with RO + NF membranes was suggested as the deep treatment technique for dual water supply. This combination technique has a high removal proportion of micro-pollutants with more than 90% for the organic micro-pollutants and a high recovery of purified water up to 80%, and the produces a purified water with some suitable amount of useful minerals(2) According to the disinfection characteristics of a dual water supply system, a combination technique of UV + ClO2 was suggested. The results have shown that, this combination technique, in the case of 0.1 mg/L of ClO2 dose in supplying water and more than 0.03 mg/L of effective chlorine in tap water, can control effectively microorganism parameters in a dual tube drinking water supply system. This technique has a stable disinfection effect, and the disinfected water has a very small amount of disinfected -by products and keeps a good taste.(3). According to the characteristics of dual water supply systems, a preliminary rule for the dual water supply system tube design was suggested. The rule has been applied to a few engineerings and a good result has been obtained.(4). With the PLC technique, an automatic control system was designed and developed. Each units of a dual water supply system can be whole controlled by this system. Combined the network and computer techniques with the characteristics of dual water supply systems, a remote on-line monitor system for the dual water supply system was developed. This monitor system can put into effect on an on-line monitor of the running state of and key water quality parameters of the system(5) A dual water supply engineering of Guangzhou Baiyun Golf Garden was demonstrated by the studied and developed techniques. This demonstration engineering has been run and monitored for two months and the whole system is quite stable and has gotten good results.These results have a great significance to improve the current techniques of dual water supply and promote the development of this field.
