History of Matrix Isolation Spectroscopy, which can be traced back to the 40's ofthe last century, became an important technique in the chemical reaction studies in the50's . In the following decades, varies of matrices including N2, H2 and rare gas havebeen used to investigate the molecular interactions, the intermediates and products ofchemical reactions. Solid hydrogen as matrix host, owing to its unique quantum solidcharacters, has attracted more and more interests. The present dissertation is contributed to setting up an apparatus for low temper-ature matrix isolation infrared absorption spectroscopy studies. A converter for para-hydrogen converting is also designed and applied. Using this experimental setup, werecoded the spectra of N2O and CO2 in solid hydrogen and neon matrices. The dissertation is organized as following:In the first chapter, we present the history, developments, principles and featuresof the techniques applied in the thesis, including matrix isolated spectroscopy, Fouriertransform spectroscopy and the difference frequency generation technique. In the second chapter, the apparatus for matrix isolation infrared absorption spec-troscopy and para-hydrogen converting is introduced. The spectrum of solid hydrogenis presented. We will also give the details how to obtain the para-hydrogen concentra-tion, thickness of the crystal film and other important experimental parameters fromthe spectrum. The matrix isolation spectroscopy study of N2O is presented in Chapter III. Thefundamental to high overtone bands of several isotopologues of N2O in solid hydrogenand neon matrices have been recorded and the spectroscopic characters of this systemwere obtained. The preliminary conclusions on the interactions among the moleculesin the crystal were presented. The forth chapter gives the solid hydrogen and neon matrix isolation spectroscopyof different isotopologues of CO2. The investigations on the temperature-dependentand ortho-hydrogen concentration-dependent features of theν3 band fine structures arepresented. The assignments of the spectral structures are given based on the analysisof these features.
