Polyether type aromatic polymers are a class of high performance materials known for their excellent combination of chemical, physical and mechanical properties. This class of advanced materials is currently wide applied in aerospace, optics, electronics and other high technology fields. However, it is difficult for conventional poly(aryl ether)s to be used as thin films and coating materials because of their poor solubility. In addition, their poor solubility makes the polymerization condition rigorous. Therefore, much attention has been focused on the preparation of soluble aromatic polyether, and fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s is a very important field in these research work. In this dissertation, several kinds of fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s were designed, synthesized and characterized. Work in the dissertation include the following three parts.Firstly, design and synthesis of fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s.From cheap and readily available materials, Three important monomers, 1,2-bis(4-ethynylphenoxy)perfluorocyclobutane(6), bis(4-fluorophenyl)-3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenylphosphine oxide(22), bis[4-(3'-aminophenoxy)phenyl]-3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenylphosphine oxide (25), were successfully synthesized by several steps of simple reactions. Utilizing 6 and several kinds of diazides prepared in our lab, poly(aryl ether)s containing 1,2,3-triazolyl and perfluorocyclobutane (PFCB) units were synthesized by "Click chemistry". Utilizing the polycondensation reaction between 6 and several commercially available aromatic diphenol or copolymerization reaction after adding another active aromatic dichloride, fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s containing phenylphosphine oxide (PPO) units were synthesized. Utilizing the polycondensation reaction between 6 and several commercially available aromatic dianhydride, fluorinated poly(aryl ether imide)s containing PPO units were synthesized.Secondly, structure characterization of fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s.While synthesizing of fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s, we were carrying out structural analysis of the resulting fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s by FI-IR, 1H NMR, 19F NMR and 31P NMR.Thirdly, study on properties of fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s.The solubility, optical and thermal properties of the resulting fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s were investigated, and inherent viscosities, molecular weight and morphology were also measured.
