The 21st century has been called "the century of ocean".The emerging submarine science is one of the important and cutting edge fields of marine scientific research.Since most of the submarine area is unknown and badly in need of exploring, researches on submarine exploration technology play a significantly important role in submarine science. At present, submarine exploration mainly relies on acoustic exploration technology, especially acoustic exploration technology on the sub-bottom submarine. The submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploration technology includes three branches:side-scan sonar technique, multi-beam echo sounder technique and sub-bottom profiler technique. The side-scan sonar is mainly used to acquire the high-resolution seafloor relief image, the multi-beam echo sounder is mainly to acquire the high-precise seafloor topography information and the sub-bottom profiler is mainly to get more details about the submarine sediment. These acquired multi-source heterogeneous data belong to the scope of geospatial data. However, integration and fusion on these large volume of geospatial data acquired by the rapid developing submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploration techniques have not yet received much attention to be efficiently managed systematically by GIS(Geographic Information Science) spatial data management new technologies and geospatial data integration and fusion theories and methods. So the spatial data collected by the three branches of submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploration technology are still in a very low integrating level at home and abroad, not to mention the high efficient data management. The large amount of these submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploring spatial data can not achieve its desired value without a highly efficient data management. The innovative GIS technologies, including theories and methods on the geospatial data integration and fusion, are used here to establish the new integration and fusion models to effectively integrate and efficiently manage the geospatial data collected by the three braches techniques.Meanwhile,a prototype software system is developed to implement 3-D representation of these geospatial data and its integration.Based on the analysis on submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploration technologies, the following four aspects are mainly studied:(1)Integration of geospatial data collected by submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploration. Based on the studies related to GIS spatial data integration and the uncertainties in data collecting and processing, the study on theme-based data integration model is carried out.(2)Fusion of the geospatial data collected by submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploration. Based on the studies related to GIS data fusion and application of submarine pipe route inspection,a spatial-characteristic-based data fusion model is carried out.(3)Management and GIS Representation of submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploration data. The highly efficient management to submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploration geospatial data is implemented based on object-oriented spatial database technoloqy. The strategies on 2-D and 2.5-D consistent representation for the submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploring data are proposed, and the volume rendering-based method for 3-D consistent representation of the submarine sub-bottom geospatial is also proposed,in which method the flow of the 3-D representation is also introduced.(4)A GIS-based prototype system.A GIS-based system for submarine pipe route inspection data management is developed based on research results of this dissertation and our background on the submarine pipe route inspection by submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploration technology in Hangzhou Bay.The software system implements the acoustic exploring spatial data fusion in the inspection, the high efficient data management and the 3-D representation of the fused geospatial. The significant results of this dissertation include three aspects,a) The established models for integration and fusion of the submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploration data can solve the existing problems,e.g.,very low level of data integration, low efficiency in data management,b) The proposed method for the consistent representation of submarine sub-bottom 3-D geospatial data can represent the exploring results visually,c) The research results of this dissertation can be extensively applied in many fields which use submarine sub-bottom acoustic exploration technology to collect its data.
