In this thesis, the transfer ionization processes of He, Ne, Ar by Cq+(q=1-4) and Oq+(q=1-3) were investigated. The energy range studied are 17.9- to 120-keV/amu C1+, 30- to 323-keV/amu C2+, 71.7- to 438-keV/amu C3+, 287- to 480-keV/amu C4+, 15.9- to 80.4-keV/amu O1+, 30- to 254-keV/amu O2+ and 63.5- to 321.6-keV/amu O3+. The ratio between the cross sections for transfer ionisation and single capture is determined by measuring projectile-ion final charge states in coincidence with target recoil-ion final charge states. The energy dependencies of the measured cross section ratios are presented. The transfer ionization channel is important in present energy range. For a given incoming projectile charge state the ratios vary strongly with the energy and peaks at a certain energy. As the charge state increases, the maximum of ratio move towards to the higher energy. These results are analysed based on the independent particle model. The experimental data are compared with our theoretical results using an improved over-barrier model.
