Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMP) is one of the members of transforming growth factor β(TGF-β) superfamily. BMPs have various biological effects. New members of BMP family have been continuously cloned, since the first BMP cDNA was cloned by Wozney in 1988. But none of them was cloned by a Chinese. Up to date, seventeen different forms of human BMP cDNAs have been identified. All of them, except BMP1, are members of TGF-β superfamily.In this paper, with the fragment of cDNA encoding the mature region of human BMP3 as a probe, we have obtained four positive plaques by screening the cDNA library of human embryonic kidney using the hybridization , polymerase chain reaction and southern blotting .
