Information is the basis for modern economics, technology and social development. Spatial information is an important component for human beings to know the objective world and also an information expression for people to describe material and immaterial phenomena on the surface of the earth. Based on kinds of atlas composed of image, graphics and characters, It is a coding system and is responsible for the transmission and interpretation in spatial information.The target of this paper is color management mechanism based on spatial information. The paper summarizes the related theory and engineering research regarding Modern Colorimetry, Geomatics, Computer Visual Analysis, Color Science, Printing Engineering and The application of new material. This study probes into two main aspects. One is the theoretic significance and technical target that the application and controlling model of color management bring to visualization and color in spatial information, and this part involves color definition, color characterization, color identification and quantitative description of color in spatial information. The other is the theory, model, technical framework, controlling mechanism and solutions with regard to color management.Based on the principle of Geomatics, chromatic perception and color reproduction, this study establishes a model, a mechanism and methods for color management in spatial information based on three elements (image, graphics and character) and digital description of color attributes, and includes technical specifications for software and hardware for achieving the aim of "WYSIWYG" in spatial information. In terms of chromatics science and color perception, this study concludes the methods of color characterization, color identification, color correction, color matching in spatial information and the method based on END. In terms of color management mechanism, considering that there is no complete color characterization method, this study discusses the choice of characteristic color and spectrum which based on the optimization of system, it brings forward an integrated mechanism and optimization methods which based on END for the purpose of managing color characterization in spatial information system. In terms of color conversion in spatial information, this study analyses the relationship among RGB.CMYK and LAB, the characteristic of color rendering and its application systematically. The study emphasizes on non-linearized conversion relationship and color conversion, thus it puts forward the methods of gamut matching , especially the gamut matching method based on black calculation and UCR/GCR. In the Cross-media application of spatial information, this study eventually set up the framework, workflow and process control model for color management.Based on the characteristic of color reproduction in spatial information, the study finally analyses the feasibility of this color management mechanism with high precision, simple and convenient workflow with three practical tests in industry standard.Mostly, The research has gained three innovations:(l) It considers color managementtheory as a kind of methodology and brings it to the application field of special information. Further more, it sets up a digital workflow that is characterized as "Data input and Product output" and a basic frame and control mechanism for color management in special information; (2) Systematic research has be done for the structure of color characterization and some related theories and technologies of spatial information. Therefore, it brings forward the color management model in spatial information and sets up a set of control system including the configurations of color management, digital testform and practical solutions. The aim of this model is achieving "WYSIWYG"(what you see is what you get); (3) According to the requirements of industrial application, a series of examples had been used in this study . In the integrated cross-media filed including soft copy and hard copy, the study puts forward control methods, workflow, the characteristic of algorithm and its optimization methods for color management.Due to time and energy, some improvements and questions will be done in the future. These questions are listed as follow: (1) Color management mechanism is of great importance for achieving color consistency —the most difficult problem in the world, so great efforts have to be made for the advanced study of its theories and technologies; (2) The color management mechanism founded in this paper need to be transferred to a set of product .In particular, the digital testform and its elements need to be optimized and consummated.
