Most if not all species live in patchy habitats. This has become increasingly truebecause of landscape fragmentation throughout the world. The set of local (patch)populations of a species in spatially discrete habitats may be called a metapopulation. At present, there have been extensive studies on the animal metapopulation. However, studies on the plant metapopulation are rare. In addition, studies onmetapopulation in our country mostly focused on translating extemal papers andintroducing the situation of their researches, and nearly there isn't material study onmetapopulation.we study the metapopulation of Lilium tsingtauense. Based on long-term sitestudies and all-around investigation, we ascertained six subpopulations of LiliumIsingtauense at different altitude, applied GPS, GIS to make certain the orientationof individuals and mensurated their heights in each subpopulation, and estimated theage class of Lilium tsingtauense. At same time some environment factors have beentest with which the species growth and development have relationship.Lilium tsingtauense, which mainly distributes in Mountain Lao, is an endemic, rare and endangered plant in China. Because of the disturbance of human, the habitatsof Lilium tsingtauense have been fragmental. The species can only be found ataltitude 400-1000m in the beauty spot of Bei Jiu Shui of Mountain Lao, and lives inpatchy habitats. The habitat is located at the shade slope or semi-shade slope wherethe forest coverage was developed well and the sunlight and soil humidity can meetthe needs of the species. The population of Lilium tsingtauense takes on the form ofmetapopulation. There are 6 patch in our study transect narned population 1,population 2, population 3, population 4, population 5 and population 6.After the studies about the height and leaves number structure by use statisticmethods we know that the distribution curves of height is not fit the normaldistribution While the leaves number distribution is. At the same time, the agestructure, time-specific life table, survivorship curve, fecundity schedule and Lesliematrix were obtained through ana1ysing the demograPhy and age struct'Ures of eachsubpopulation. The results showed that the survivorship curve of subpopulation ataltitude 490m pertained to" lI,' shaPe, while others were" I" shaPe. And throughLeslie matrix analysis, we deduced, except of the subpopulation at altitude 490m, thesubpopulations of Lilium tsingtauense will not die out if not been disturbed badly. We estimated the growth ability and resistance ability of both metapopulationand local population by use the method of quamitative analysis for populationstructura1 dynamics. The growth ability order is population l> population 2>population 3> population 5> population 6 >metapopulation>population 4. Under thecondition of random the persistence ability order is populationl< population 3
