Research On The History Of Missionary Hospitals In Modern Shanghai

In modern times,many missionary hospitals were set up in Shanghai,including 6Christian hospitals and 9 Catholic hospitals.These missionary hospitals are the products of Western missionaries in China.The establishment of church hospitals objectively introduced western medicine into China and changed the original medical system.Objective: To collect the historical data of Shanghai missionary hospital from various newspapers,domestic and foreign journals,works,archives,foreign language literature of library,etc.,in order to comprehensively analyze the reasons for the establishment,management mechanism,capital operation mode,bed setting,medical education and other medical activities of the hospital,This paper systematically reviews the development of missionary hospitals in Shanghai,and summarizes their impact on modern medical environment,public health,medical education and the development of traditional Chinese medicine,so as to provide ideas and reference for future research.Methods: using the methods of philology,history and sociology,based on the documents and periodicals,Shanghai archives,Xujiahui library,hospital history and records,domestic and foreign library historical materials,and taking modern Shanghai church hospital as the object,the research was carried out from the aspects of hospital establishment,development and operation,medical education,etc.Results: The relevant historical materials of 15 missionary hospitals were collected,including archives,modern Chinese and English newspapers,foreign library materials,hospital history and chronicles,etc.The reasons for the establishment,development and operation,medical education and other medical activities of each hospital were sorted out,which made a more comprehensive supplement and improvement to the history of missionary hospitals in modern Shanghai.Conclusion: the establishment of modern Shanghai church hospital objectively made western medicine take root in Shanghai,changed the medical pattern of modern Shanghai,promoted the development of modern Shanghai medicine,and promoted the modernization and scientific transformation of traditional Chinese medicine.It is of great significance to the medical history of modern Shanghai.
