Objective Lifelong smoking cessation is an important public health goal, but it is difficult for many people to achieve it,so it is very urgent and necessary to develop effective smoking control measures to improve the success rate of smoking cessation. This study analyzed the smoking reasons, smoking motivation, smoking failure reasons, nicotine dependence degree, anxiety and depression, and the objective factors closely related to the success of smoking cessation by following up healthy tobacco addicts who have the intention and behavior to quit smoking, and provided some theoretical support for promoting the formulation of effective smoking cessation intervention measures. Methods Ninety-two healthy male patients with tobacco dependence who visited our smoking cessation clinic were included in the study.According to the degree of nicotine dependence, they were divided into low nicotine dependence group(25 cases),moderate nicotine dependence group(36 cases),and high nicotine dependence group(31 cases). The differences in general information, smoking status, exhaled CO level, anxiety and depression among the three groups were compared;According to the score of the Anxiety and Depression Scale, they were divided into anxiety/depression group(20 cases)and non-anxiety/depression group(72 cases). The differences in general information, smoking, exhaled CO level and nicotine dependence between the two groups were compared;According to the different time points of continuous smoking cessation, they were divided into non-smoking group(26 cases),quitting group for 1 week(14 cases),quitting group for 1month(16 cases),quitting group for 3 months(11 cases),and quitting group(25 cases). The differences in general information, smoking status, exhaled CO level, nicotine dependence and anxiety/depression among the five groups were analyzed;Compare the anxiety and depression of the successful group before quitting smoking,1 week,1 month and 3 months after quitting smoking, and analyze the influence of quitting smoking on anxiety and depression; Objective factors influencing smoking cessation success were analyzed by logistic regression. Results There were 25 cases(27.17%)who successfully quit smoking. The main reasons for starting smoking were curiosity(60.9%),social interaction(53.3%),relieving mental stress(43.5%)and imitation(42.4%).The main motivation for quitting smoking was the gradual decline of health status(92.4%),knowing that smoking was harmful to health/wanted to live a healthy life(90.2%),and family members wanted me to quit smoking(25.0%);The main causes of relapse were smoking addiction(73.1%),pressure of smoking friends(34.3%),tension and anxiety(31.3%),depression/unhappiness(29.9%),and work pressure(20.9%).The daily smoking volume, smoking age, exhaled CO measurement value, anxiety value and depression value of the three groups with low, medium and severe nicotine dependence were statistically different(P<0.05).There was a statistical difference in exhaled CO and FTND scores(P<0.05).There were significant differences in FTND scores, anxiety values and depression values among five groups(P < 0.05).The scores of anxiety and depression in the successful smoking cessation group were lower than those before smoking cessation(P<0.05).Daily smoking volume(OR: 0.947,95% CI: 0.900~0.996),exhaled CO measurement value(OR: 0.876,95% CI: 0.795~0.964),FTND score(OR: 0.764,95% CI:0.630~0.927),anxiety value(OR: 0.735,95% CI: 0.593~0.911),depression value(OR:0.825,95% CI: 0.693~0.982)were negatively correlated with smoking cessation success(P<0.05).Conclusion 1.The behavior of smoking is interacted by social, psychological and biological factors.2.The willingness and attempt to quit smoking of healthy tobacco-dependent patients,as well as the eventual relapse behavior, are the result of the joint action of factors.3.Quitting smoking can improve the anxiety and depression of patients with tobacco dependence.4.The higher the daily smoking volume, the higher the exhaled CO level, the higher the nicotine dependence, the higher the degree of anxiety/depression,and the lower the success rate of smoking cessation.
