Objective(s):The early recovery after Total Knee Arthroplasty(TKA)was retrospectively studied in Knee Osteoarthritis(KOA)patients with varus deformity. To explore the comparison of early recovery of knee joint after TKA treatment in patients with different degrees of varus deformity between different groups; To provide technical support and theoretical basis for clinical TKA treatment of different degrees of varus deformity of knee joint. Methods:We collected a total of 70 knee osteoarthritis patients with varus deformity, including 8 males and 62 females, were admitted to the Department of Osteoarthrosis,Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University from January 2019 to September 2022.All patients received TKA,and only patients with unilateral Tkas were collected.Preoperative Hip-Knee-Ankle(HKA)angles were measured to determine the degree of knee varus deformity. All patients were divided into three groups according to preoperative knee varus angles:mild varus group(≤10°),moderate varus group(10°-20°),and severe varus group(≥20°).Preoperative basic information of patients, including age, gender,BMI and average length of hospital stay, was collected and studied.Intraoperative conditions were operation duration;Imaging indexes were the Angle of knee varus before and after surgery.Knee functional status, including the New York Hospital for special Surgery Score(HSS)for preoperative and postoperative patients, and the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)for preoperative and postoperative patients.SPSS 27.0 statistical software was used for statistical analysis of the data. The measurement data was presented in the form of mean ± standard deviation, the paired T-test was used to represent the comparison before and after surgery, and the comparison of relevant parameters between groups was conducted by one-way analysis of variance. The difference was considered statistically significant with p<0.05 as the standard.Results:1.Follow-up information:In this study,a total of 70 patients, including 8 males and 62 females, were followed up from preoperative hospitalization to 6 months after surgery.2.Comparison of patients’ basic information and preoperative clinical function indexes:there were no statistical differences among the three groups in gender, age and BMI(p>0.05),but there were statistical differences among the three groups in preoperative knee varus Angle, preoperative HSS score and preoperative VAS score(p<0.05).3.Comparison of intraoperative conditions:there were differences among the three groups in the specific time of TKA surgery(p<0.05),because patients with different knee varus deformity had different degrees of soft tissue balance and lower limb alignment during TKA surgery.4.Comparison of postoperative activities:After surgery,HSS scores of the three groups were higher than those before surgery, with statistical significance(p<0.05);VAS score was lower than that before operation, and the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05).Postoperative comparison among the three groups,HSS score and VAS score, the difference was not statistically significant(p>0.05).That is to say, after TKA surgery, lower limb movement and pain sensation of the three groups were improved compared with those before surgery, but after TKA surgery, there was no statistical significance in the range of movement and pain sensation of the three groups of patients with different degrees of varus deformity before surgery.5.Comparison of imaging indexes:Compared with preoperative HKA in the three groups, the differences were statistically significant(p<0.05);There was no significant difference in HKA among the three groups after surgery(p>0.05).That is,after receiving TKA surgery, the lower limb force lines of the three groups were improved compared with those before surgery. However, after TKA surgery, the lower limb force lines of the three groups of patients with different degrees of varus deformity before surgery were not statistically significant.Conclusion(s):1.This retrospective study found that the postoperative recovery of lower limb alignment and lower limb activity in KOA patients with different degrees of knee varus deformity treated by TKA was improved compared with that before surgery, with considerable short-term efficacy.2.Preoperative KOA patients with different degrees of knee varus deformity showed a small difference in lower limb force line and lower limb activity after knee surface replacement, which provided statistical basis for guiding clinical TKA surgery for patients with different degrees of knee varus deformity.3.When KOA patients with different degrees of knee varus deformity receive TKA surgery, soft tissue balance and lower limb alignment recovery and other operations are extremely important for the prognosis of patients.Through good operation, even KOA patients with severe deformity can bring better postoperative efficacy.
