Objective:To observe the improvement effect of general acupuncture combined with abdominal acupuncture therapy on dry eyes of Qi-Yin deficiency type.To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of ventral acupuncture combined with general acupuncture in the treatment of dry eyes with Qi-Yin deficiency, and to provide new ideas and methods for the treatment of dry eyes with Qi-Yin deficiency by acupuncture. Methods:A total of 75 patients(150 eyes)were collected from December 2021 to October 2022 who attended the ophthalmology clinic of the Affiliated Hospital of Gansu University of Chinese Medicine and were identified as having dry eyes of the Qi-Yin type. These patients were randomly assigned to two treatment groups, one group received general acupuncture treatment and the other group received ventral acupuncture combined with general acupuncture treatment.Thirty-five cases(70 eyes)were completed in each group. The frequency of acupuncture in both groups was once a day for 30 min/time,with a course of 7days,and after 6 consecutive days of acupuncture, the acupuncture was stopped for 1 day,for a total of 3 courses of treatment. The dry eye-related indexes of tear secretion test(SIT),fluorescein tear film tear break-up time(FBUT),and sodium fluorescein stain test(FL)of the cornea were tested and recorded respectively before and after treatment, and the TCM evidence score and OSDI scale score were also performed.Result:1.The final number of completed treatments was 70 cases, with 35 cases completed in each group. Before treatment, the age, gender, and pre-treatment OSDI,TCM evidence score and various dry eye indicators(SIT,FBUT,FL)were comparable in each of the two groups, and the differences were not statistically significant(P>0.05),and the two groups pre-treatment data were relatively comparable among the groups.2.Within-group comparisons revealed that after completing 3 courses of treatment, subjects in both groups showed significant improvements in OSDI and TCM evidence scores. In addition, there were also significant improvements in FBUT,FL,and SIT,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).3.The between-group comparison revealed no statistically significant difference in improvement between the combined abdominal acupuncture group and the general acupuncture group in terms of FL indexes after the subjects in both groups completed 3courses of treatment(P>0.05).The combined abdominal acupuncture group showed significant effects in improving OSDI,TCM evidence score,FBUT,SIT,and other indicators, and was significantly better than the general acupuncture group(P<0.01).4.No serious adverse events occurred in both group, and both had a high safety profile.Conclusion:1.Both combined ventral acupuncture and general acupuncture treatment for Qi-Yin deficiency dry eyes can significantly improve the ocular surface disease index, and traditional Chinese medicine evidence score, and also have significant improvement effects on promoting tear secretion, repairing corneal damage, tear film stability, both of which are effective clinical treatments for Qi-Yin deficiency dry eyes.2.Compared to single general acupuncture treatment, combined ventral acupuncture treatment has significant advantages in improving ocular surface symptoms, improving symptoms, improving tear film stability, and promoting tear secretion in patients with Qi-Yin deficiency dry eyes.3.Both combined ventral acupuncture and general acupuncture have a good safety profile for the treatment of dry eyes with Qi-Yin deficiency. The combination of ventral acupuncture, which is mildly painful, and ordinary acupuncture for treating Qi-Yin deficiency dry eyes is outstanding and worthy of clinical promotion.
