Purpose:To explore the clinical effect of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)atomization combined with azelastine hydrochloride on allergic conjunctivitis in children with exogenous wind-heat type, observe the improvement of symptoms and signs, and provide a safe and effective treatment for allergic conjunctivitis in children. Methods:In this study,a randomized controlled study method was used to collect 65children(130 eyes)who were treated in Mianyang Hospital of TCM Affiliated to Chengdu University of traditional Chinese medicine from April 2021 to January 2022,aged 5-14 years, met the inclusion criteria of allergic conjunctivitis and belonged to exogenous wind heat type according to TCM syndrome differentiation.According to the random number table, the children were divided into 33 cases(66 eyes)in the treatment group and 32 cases(64 eyes)in the control group. The control group received azelastine hydrochloride eye drops,3 times a day,as the basic treatment. The treatment group was the basic treatment combined with TCM atomization(drug composition: Saposhnikovia divaricata 8g Schizonepeta tenuifolia 8g Angelica dahurica 6g Sophora flavescens 6g cicada slough 6g mint 3g scutellaria baicalensis Georgi 3g)once a day, with an interval of no more than two days, and the treatment cycle was the same for two weeks. Before treatment,1 week after treatment,2 weeks after treatment, and 2 weeks after the end of treatment, the patients were followed up to observe the ocular symptoms and signs. After 3 months of treatment, the patients were followed up by telephone to understand the recurrence rate, scored according to the efficacy evaluation criteria, and the data were statistically analyzed by SPSS 26.0statistical software.Results:1.Before treatment, the age, sex, symptoms and signs of the two groups were compared(P>0.05),which showed that there was no significant difference between the two groups, and it was comparable.2.After treatment, the scores of symptoms and signs of the two groups showed a downward trend. The results showed that the rates of itching, foreign body sensation, conjunctival follicles, conjunctival edema, conjunctival congestion and disappearance of conjunctival sac secretion in the treatment group were significantly higher than those in the control group after two weeks of treatment and two weeks after the end of treatment(p<0.05).After two weeks of treatment, the disappearance rate of photophobia and corneal epithelial lesions in the treatment group was higher than that in the control group(p<0.05);Two weeks after the treatment, there was no significant difference in the improvement of photophobia and corneal epithelial lesions between the two groups(p>0.05).After treatment, the disappearance rate of Horner trantas nodule in the treatment group was slightly higher than that in the control group, but there was no significant difference between the two groups(p>0.05).3.The scores of main symptoms and signs, secondary symptoms and signs and overall symptoms and signs of the two groups decreased before and after treatment(p<0.05),indicating that both treatment methods can improve allergic conjunctivitis in children. The scores of the treatment group were significantly lower than those of the control group(p<0.05),indicating that the overall improvement effect of the treatment group was better.4.After one week and two weeks of treatment, there was significant difference between the two groups(p<0.05),and the curative effect of the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group.Follow up two weeks after the end of treatment showed that the overall effective rate of the treatment group was higher, but there was no significant difference between the two groups(p<0.05),indicating that both treatment methods had better sustained effects.5.After 3 months of treatment, the recurrence rate of the treatment group was 17.85%,and the recurrence rate of the control group was 33.33%.The recurrence rate of the treatment group was lower and the curative effect was better.Conclusions:1.Both TCM atomization combined with azelastine hydrochloride eye drops and azelastine hydrochloride eye drops alone can effectively treat allergic conjunctivitis in children with exogenous wind heat syndrome and improve their ocular symptoms and signs.TCM atomization combined with azelastine hydrochloride eye drops has a better overall effect.2.TCM atomization combined with azelastine hydrochloride eye drops has a lower recurrence rate, which is worthy of clinical application.3.TCM atomization combined with eye drops and eye drops alone can locally improve the clinical symptoms of children with allergic conjunctivitis, but for their allergic constitution and other systemic allergic reactions, they need to be combined with systemic drugs.
