Objective1.The Preterm Birth Experience and Satisfaction Scale(P-BESS)was developed and its reliability was evaluated in the application of the scale to preterm births.2.The Maternal Experience of Preterm Labor and Satisfaction Scale was used to understand the experiences of mothers during preterm labor and their satisfaction with health care providers. The scale was used to find out the current status of maternal experience and satisfaction with health care providers during preterm labor and to explore the factors that influence the maternal experience of preterm labor.Methods1.After obtaining the consent of the authors of the original scale, the original scale was translated and back-translated according to the modified Brislin model to form the first draft,cross-cultural debugging of the first draft scale, preparation of an expert questionnaire, selection of 20 experts familiar with the field to consult the first draft scale, and selection and adjustment of the entries according to the experts’ opinions to form the final version of the Chinese version of the Maternal Preterm Birth Experience and Satisfaction Scale.2.The Chinese version of the Maternal Preterm Birth Experience and Satisfaction Scale was used to survey 203 preterm mothers in two tertiary hospitals in Shandong Province. The reliability of the scale was tested by item analysis, content validity, structural validity, internal consistency reliability and retest reliability.3.A self-designed general and obstetric information questionnaire, the Chinese version of the Maternal Preterm Birth Experience and Satisfaction Scale and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale were used to survey 263 women in preterm labor in two tertiary hospitals in Shandong Province to analyse the current situation of maternal preterm birth experience and satisfaction and its influencing factors.4.Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 24.0 to test the quality of each item in the scale using item analysis, the validity of the scale using content validity and structural validity, the reliability of the scale using internal consistency reliability and retest reliability, descriptive statistics using frequency, composition ratio and mean ± standard deviation for general information, and two independent samples t-test,one-way ANOVA,multiple linear regression and other statistical methods were used to analyse the factors influencing maternal preterm birth experience and satisfaction.Results1.The Chinese version of the scale was revised to form the Chinese version of the Maternal Preterm Birth Experience and Satisfaction Scale. The scale was divided into four dimensions with 20 entries. After expert consultation all 20 entries were retained, with the content of entries 5,6 and 19 being revised.(i)Item analysis: the correlation coefficients between the entry scores and the total scores ranged from 0.361 to 0.749.(ii)Scale validity: the content validity index(I-CVI)of each entry of the scale ranged from0.857 to 1.00,and the mean content validity index(S-CVI)of all entries was 0.950;exploratory factor analysis extracted four common factors with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 75.894%;In the validation factor analysis, the chi-squared freedom ratio(c 2/df)was 1.004,the comparative fit index(CFI)was 1.000,the asymptotic residual mean square and root square(RMSEA)was 0.004,and the Tucker-Lewis index(TLI)was 1.000.(iii)Reliability of the scale: maternal preterm birth experience and satisfaction in Chinese The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the scale was 0.878,the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for each dimension was 0.899-0.934,and the retest reliability coefficient was 0.774.2.The Chinese version of the Maternal Experience of Preterm Birth and Satisfaction Scale scores ranged from 20.00 to 100.00,with a mean score of(69.24 ± 23.27),which is at a relatively high level. The lowest mean scores for the information and explanation dimension entries and the highest mean scores for the spousal involvement entries were found in all four dimensions. This indicates that health care workers should not only pay attention to the needs and changes in the psychological aspects of women during labour and delivery, but also focus on providing information and medical technical assistance in order to provide better and better quality medical care.3.The results of the analysis of influencing factors showed that maternal literacy, number of births, history of adverse pregnancy and birth, complications during pregnancy, and depression were the main factors influencing maternal experience of and satisfaction with preterm labor.Conclusions1.The Chinese version of the Maternal Preterm Birth Experience and Satisfaction Scale consists of four dimensions: professionalism and empathy, information and explanation, trust in the health worker, and spousal involvement, with 20 items. The scale is concise and easy to understand, and has good validity and reliability, making it a useful tool for assessing maternal experience and satisfaction with preterm labor in China.2.The main factors that influence maternal experience and satisfaction with preterm labour include maternal literacy, poor maternal history, number of births, complications during pregnancy, and depression. In order to improve the maternal experience of preterm labor, health care providers should increase their training during antenatal education on issues that may lead to preterm labor, and pay particular attention to the psychological needs of the mother.
