| Objective: With the rapid development of traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)informatics, the standardization of TCM syndromes syndrome terms needs further research.Authoritative knowledge of TCM syndromes in the industry, such as the current four TCM syndrome terminology standards "Classification and codes of Disease and Patterns of Traditional Chinese Medicine"("GB95"),"Clinical Terminology of Traditional Chinese Medical Diagnosis and Treatment — Syndrome Part"("GB97"),"Eleventh Revision of International Classification of Diseases" the Traditional Medicine Chapter("ICD-TM"),"Classification and codes of Disease and Patterns of Traditional Chinese Medicine " and "Clinical Terminology of Traditional Chinese Medical Diagnosis and Treatment Part 2:Syndrome "("GB2021")are mostly disseminated by text data, not an open intelligent database of TCM symptoms and signs.TCM syndrome knowledge is the core content of TCM clinical syndrome differentiation and treatment, and its modernization and standardization research is of great significance to the inheritance and development of the field of TCM.In order to realise the formal expression of the concept of TCM evidence terminology, this study uses the ontology construction theory as the support, refers to the existing mature ontology technology and the construction specification, and uses the OBO Foundry ontology development principles as the basic to build the TCM evidence domain ontology for the current research status of the TCM domain, and designs the application demonstration based on the constructed TCM evidence ontology with clinical cases. Methods: Using The Open Biomedical Ontologies(OBO)based ontology construction method to build TCM syndrome ontology.First of all, through the use of literature research, the current situation of ontology in the field of traditional Chinese medicine at home and abroad is investigated, and the shortcomings of the current ontology in the field of traditional Chinese medicine are sorted out,and the theme and coverage of the ontology are determined.By comparing the scope of terms, classification methods, classification levels and other aspects of the current four TCM syndrome terminology standards,we determined to use the recognized national standard of TCM syndrome "GB2021" as the source to process the data, clarify the core concepts related to TCM syndrome.Sort out the core concepts related to TCM syndromes, and clarify the internal relationship among syndromes, syndrome elements and pathogenesis. The top-level ontology selected in this study is Basic Formal Ontology(BFO).The classification of TCM syndrome ontology is top-down,and the classification structure is determined according to the characteristics of the knowledge system of the "GB2021" to complete the Ontology framework design. In addition,in order to formally express TCM syndrome knowledge in a more comprehensive way, this study adds the pathogenesis layer when building the syndrome ontology, then uses protégé tool and Ontology Wed Language(OWL)to create ontology classes and attributes, formally defines TCM syndrome terminology classes, and finally uses the native inference engine to verify the ontology and reorganize the ontology according to the inference results, completing the construction of TCM syndrome ontology. After the construction, the clinical case data of Ig A nephropathy will be used as the data source, and 186 pieces of data will be collected to realize the application scenario of combining TCM syndrome ontology with clinical data. Results: The TCM syndrome ontology is based on "GB2021" as the terminology source, collecting and organizing a total of 2060 terms, including a total of 42 terms in thecategory of eight principles syndromes/patterns terminology,880 terms in the category of syndromes/patterns related to disease causes,300 terms in the category of syndromes/patterns of qi,blood, yin, yang, essence, marrow and body fluids terminology,660 terms in the category of syndromes/patterns involving zang-fu,sense organs and orifices terminology,102 terms in the category of meridians and collaterals syndromes/patterns terminology,19 terms in the category of triple energizer syndrome/pattern terminology,19 terms in the category of syndromes/patterns of defense,qi,nutrient and blood phases terminology,10 terms in the Other Syndrome category, and 28 terms in the category of stages terminology. The construction of the ontology of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome has achieved the formal expression of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome terminology. And it has realized the transformation of the typical clinical symptoms, core pathogenesis and other contents in the concept of TCM syndrome to computer language description. At the same time, based on the TCM syndrome ontology,it can carry out follow-up auxiliary clinical research, explore the clinical syndrome differentiation and treatment of TCM and other application research. The TCM syndrome ontology was completed. With "GB2021" as the source of terminology,5723 data were collected and sorted out, including 5695 items after the term of duration and 3256 items after the term of repetition was removed. The construction of TCM syndrome ontology realizes the formal expression of TCM syndrome terms. It also realized the transformation of typical clinical symptoms, core pathogenesis and other contents in the concept of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome to computer language description. At the same time, based on the ontology of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome,it can carry out follow-up auxiliary clinical research, explore clinical syndrome differentiation and treatment of traditional Chinese medicine and other application research. Conclusion: The construction of TCM syndrome ontology makes TCM syndrome terminology systematized, standardized and intelligent. The construction of TCM syndrome ontology follows the ontology development principle of OBO Foundry, and constructs the bridge between TCM syndrome knowledge and modern biomedical ontology. The construction of TCM syndrome ontology provides a certain reference for the future construction of TCM ontology, clinical application and system development of TCM syndrome based on ontology. |
