Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of useing Chihuang decoction to fumigate, warm compress both eyes and eyelid margin cleaning, combined with diquafosol sodium drops for eye dabbing in the treatment of Meibomain gland dysfunction with spleen and stomach dampness. Methods: In this study,72 patients(144 eyes)with spleen and stomach dampness of Meibomain gland dysfunction who met the inclusion criteria were allocated 1:1 to the treatment and control groups,36 patients(72 eyes)in each group, using a randomised controlled trial method. In the treatment group,on top of the basic medication(diquafosol sodium drops),the eyes were fumigated with Chihuang decoction, then warm compressed both eyes and eyelid margin cleaned. In the control group,on top of the basic medication(diclofenac sodium drops),the eyes were fumigated with pure water, then warm compressed both eyes and eyelid margin cleaned. All groups were treated for 2 consecutive courses of 14 days. The changes in objective indicators(Meibomian glands yielding liquid secretion and Meibomian gland yielding secretion score, percentage of partial glands,Tear breakup-up time,Cornea fluorescein staining),Chinese dry eye disease questionnaire score and TCM syndrome score before and after treatment were observed and statistically analysed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of useing Chihuang decoction to fumigate, warm compress both eyes and eyelid margin cleaning, combined with diquafosol sodium drops for eye dabbing in the treatment of Meibomain gland dysfunction with spleen and stomach dampness. Results:A total of 72 patients with Meibomain gland dysfunction with spleen and stomach dampness were included as subjects in this study.6 cases were excluded in the process and a total of 66(132 eyes)subjects completed treatment,33(66 eyes)in the treatment group and 33(66 eyes)in the control group. There were no statistical differences between the treatment and control groups at baseline in terms of gender, age, duration of disease, severity of disease,Meibomian glands yielding liquid secretion,Meibomian gland yielding secretion score, percentage of partial glands,Tear breakup-up time,Cornea fluorescein staining,Chinese dry eye disease questionnaire score and Chinese medicine evidence score(P>0.05),which were comparable.2.Changes in Meibomian glands yielding liquid secretion and Meibomian gland yielding secretion score between the treatment and control groups after 28 days of treatment:after 28 days of treatment, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05);after 28 days of treatment, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05),suggesting that the treatment method was better than the control group in improving the patient’s Meibomian glands yielding liquid secretion and Meibomian gland yielding secretion score to the control group in terms of improving the patients’ secretory status and secretion properties scores.3.Changes in percentage of partial glands between the treatment and control groups after 28 days of treatment: after 28 days of treatment, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05)in terms of intra-group comparison;after 28 days of treatment, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05)in terms of inter-group comparison, suggesting that the treatment method of the treatment group was superior to that of the the control group.4.Changes in Tear breakup-up time between the treatment and control groups after 28 days of treatment: after 28 days of treatment, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05);after 28 days of treatment, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05),and the treatment group was better than the control group in prolonging the Tear breakup-up time.5.Changes in Cornea fluorescein staining between the treatment and control groups after 28 days of treatment: after 28 days of treatment, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05)in terms of intra-group comparison;after 28 days of treatment, the difference between these two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05)in terms of improving the Cornea fluorescein staining of the patients, the treatment group method was superior to that of the control group.6.Changes in Chinese dry eye disease questionnaire scores between the treatment group and the control group after 28 days of treatment: after 28 days of treatment, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05);after 28 days of treatment, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05),suggesting that the treatment method was better than the control group in improving the patients’ Chinese dry eye disease questionnaire scores.group was superior to the control group in terms of improving the patients’ scores on the Chinese dry eye disease questionnaire.7.Changes in the single symptom scores and total scores of the TCM symptom scores of the treatment group and the control group after 28 days of treatment: single symptom scores: P<0.05 for the comparison of each TCM single symptom score after treatment, the difference was statistically significant. In the control group, the difference between the primary and secondary symptom scores was statistically significant(P<0.05),while the difference between the secondary symptom scores was not significant(P>0.05).Change in total score: After 28 days of treatment, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05)in terms of intra-group comparison between the two groups;after 28 days of treatment, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05)in terms of inter-group comparison between the two groups, suggesting that the treatment method of the treatment group was better than that of the control group in terms of improving the total score of the patients’ TCM symptom scores.8.No treatment-related adverse reactions and adverse events occurred in both the treatment and control groups during the 28 days of treatment, which were safe and reliable.Conclusions:1.The efficacy of useing Chihuang decoction to fumigate, warm compress both eyes and eyelid margin cleaning, combined with diquafosol sodium drops for eye dabbing in the treatment of Meibomain gland dysfunction with spleen and stomach dampness was significant, which could effectively improve the Meibomian glands yielding liquid secretion,Meibomian gland yielding secretion score, percentage of partial glands,Tear breakup-up timeand reduce the Cornea fluorescein staining,Chinese dry eye disease questionnaire score and TCM symptom score in patients with Meibomain gland dysfunction with spleen and stomach dampness.2.The efficacy of useing Chihuang decoction to fumigate, warm compress both eyes and eyelid margin cleaning, combined with diquafosol sodium drops for eye dabbing in the treatment of Meibomain gland dysfunction with spleen and stomach dampness was more satisfactory and statistically significant when compared with useing pure water to fumigate, warm compress both eyes and eyelid margin cleaning, combined with diquafosol sodium drops for eye dabbing in the treatment of Meibomain gland dysfunction with spleen and stomach dampness3.Good safety of useing Chihuang decoction to fumigate, warm compress both eyes and eyelid margin cleaning, combined with diquafosol sodium drops for eye dabbing in the treatment of Meibomain gland dysfunction with
