Population aging is a huge challenge in China’s socialist construction. The Party Central Committee has always been deeply concerned about enhancing and securing people’s livelihoods, and actively reacting to the population’s rapid aging and expediting the development of an old-age service system in line with China’s national conditions is an important event.A person’s capacity to afford basic medical insurance is essential for reducing the financial burden of their medical treatment, improving their standard of living and wellbeing, and maintaining societal peace and stability.Adequate health insurance is essential for reducing the cost of medical treatment, raising people’s standards of living and well-being,and maintaining societal peace and stability. To advance medical insurance coverage for rural and urban residents equally and to enhance people’s quality of life, the State Council formally released a paper on the thorough integration of the development of a medical insurance system in 2016.This article intends to explore the welfare impact of coordinating medical insurance across urban and rural areas on fostering fairness and justice and improving people’s livelihoods in light of the labor supply of middleaged and elderly individuals. This paper employs Difference-in-Differences model to assess the impact of medical insurance co-ordination on the labor supply. The goal is to offer a fresh viewpoint for assessing the welfare impact of coordinated medical insurance coverage between urban and rural China based on the health demand theory, labor supply theory, and literature related to medical insurance and labor supply. The seven chapters that make up this essay. The scientific background, relevance, innovation, and flaws of this study are introduced in Chapter 1.The main focus of Chapter 2 is a review of the pertinent literature and the theory. The third chapter is a description of concept and mechanism of action. The influence of urbanrural integrated medical insurance on labor supply is examined in Chapter 4 using CHARLS data, and the robustness of the empirical findings is assessed.Chapter 5makes an empirical test on the mechanism of urban and rural medical insurance coordination affecting the labor supply of middle-aged and elderly people.Chapter 6analyzes the impact of variations in urban-rural integrated medical insurance on labor supply from four parameters.Chapter 7 presents the study results and policy recommendations. The key findings from the research mentioned above are as follows: First, the empirical results show that, there is a significant negative link between the labor supply and the total planning of medical insurance.Second, there is a large diversity in the labor pool for different groups in urban-rural integrated medical insurance. In terms of gender inequalities, males who normally bear the majority of the financial burden for the family have no discernible impact from the coordination of urban and rural medical insurance, but has a major negative impact on the labor supply of middle-aged and elderly women;Urban and rural medical insurance coordination has a different impact on the labor supply of different income samples. This is consistent with the unfair benefits of urban and rural residents and the phenomenon of "pro-rich";The different impact of urban-rural integrated medical insurance on labor supply exists in urban and rural areas;Regarding regional disparities, middleaged and elderly labor supply in the eastern region is significantly harmed by urban and rural medical insurance coordination, but the sample labor supply in the central and western regions is unaffected.Based on the research conclusions, relevant policy recommendations are proposed.
