Objective: To investigate the current status of caregiving preparedness, adult attachment and social support of caregivers of cervical cancer patients,to analyze the correlation between caregiver preparedness and adult attachment, social support, and to explore the mediating effect of social support between adult attachment and caregiver preparedness,so as to provide a reference basis for future clinical development measures to improve the preparedness of caregivers of cervical cancer patients. Methods: The study was a cross-sectional design, and 246 caregivers of cervical cancer patients who were hospitalized in a Grade A cancer hospital in Liaoning Province from October 2021 to October 2022 in a gynecology ward and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected by convenience sampling method. The survey was conducted using the General Information Questionnaire, the Experiences in Close Relationships Scale, the Chinese version of the Caregiver Preparedness Scale, and the Social Support Rating Scale.Epi Data was applied to manage the data, and SPSS 26.0 software was used to describe and infer the data, mainly including t-test,one-way ANOVA,Pearson correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis;PROCESS 3.3 was used to analyze mediating effects, and Bootstrap method was used to test mediating effects. Results: 1.A total of 256 questionnaires were sent out in this study,252 questionnaires were collected, and 246 questionnaires were valid, with an effective questionnaires rate of 97.62%.2.Caregiving preparedness score of caregivers of cervical cancer patients was(22.70±5.76),attachment anxiety score was(64.49±16.22),attachment avoidance score was(51.74±15.65),and social support score was(39.57±7.43).3.The results of the univariate analysis found that caregiver gender, health status, whether they lived with the patient, whether they also needed to care for others, caregiving experience, and the patient’s health care payment method had significant effects on caregiving preparedness of caregivers of cervical cancer patients.4.The caregiving preparedness of caregivers of cervical cancer patients was significantly negatively correlated with attachment avoidance and attachment anxiety(r=-0.271,r=-0.198,P < 0.01),and caregiving preparedness was significantly positively correlated with social support scores and its dimensions(r= 0.126-0.281,P < 0.05);there was a significant negative correlation between attachment avoidance and social support score, objective support, and utilization of support(r=-0.275,r=-0.367,r=-0.277,P < 0.01);attachment anxiety had a negative relationship with social support score, objective support, and utilization of support(r=-0.174,r=-0.288,r=-0.130,P < 0.05).5.The results of the multivariate hierarchical regression analysis found that caregiver gender, family per capita income, whether they still need to care for others, attachment avoidance and subjective support significantly predicted caregiver preparedness, and the above variables explained 23.10% of the variance variance in the dependent variable.6.The results of the mediating effect analysis found that social support mediated the relationship between attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance and caregiver preparedness with effect values of 21.13% and21.10%,respectively.Conclusion: 1.The caregiving preparedness, adult attachment, and social support of caregivers of cervical cancer patients were at moderate levels.2.Caregiver gender, monthly income, whether they still needed to care for others, attachment avoidance, and subjective support were the main influencing factors of the caregiving preparedness of caregivers of cervical cancer patients.3.The lower the attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance tendency of caregivers of cervical cancer patients, the better their caregiving preparedness, and the more social support resources the caregivers received, the higher their caregiving preparedness.4.Attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance of caregivers of patients with cervical cancer can affect caregiver preparedness through social support. It is suggested that future clinical healthcare professionals can give more medical care support to caregivers, guide caregivers to establish secure attachment, and assist them to seek more social support resources to improve their caregiving preparedness in order to further improve patients’ quality of life.
