Objective: Gastric cancer is the most common gastrointestinal malignancy worldwide and has now become one of the important cancers that seriously threaten human health. In this study,we calculated the incidence and mortality of gastric cancer in urban residents of Liaoning Province from 2008 to 2019,and its changing trends. The survival rate, prevalence rate and disability-adjusted life years of gastric cancer among urban residents in Liaoning Province were estimated. Our study reveals the disease burden of gastric cancer in the population of Liaoning Province, with the aim of providing a reference for the prevention and control of gastric cancer in Liaoning Province. Methods: In this study, the incidence and mortality data of gastric cancer in Liaoning Province from 2008 to 2019 were collected from the Liaoning Cancer Registry Database and the Liaoning Cause of Death Database. And it was standardized using the standard population composition of the sixth national census in 2010 and Sige’s 1960 world population composition.A Joinpoint regression model was used to analyze trends in gastric cancer incidence and mortality rates.Using the Global burden of Disease(GBD)approach,a generalized linear model of GBD was constructed and an adjusted model was constructed by adding year and age as covariates. The optimal model was selected to estimate the 5-year relative survival rate of gastric cancer among urban residents in Liaoning Province. The final adjusted model was constructed by adjusting the follow-up data from the previous period of this study. And then estimate the survival rate of gastric cancer in urban residents in Liaoning Province from 1 to 10 years. To estimate the cumulative 1 to 10-year prevalence of gastric cancer among urban residents in Liaoning Province from 2017 to2019 by using the prevalence imputation formula. To estimate the DALYs of gastric cancer among urban residents in Liaoning Province based on the calculation of DALYs in the GBD method. Results: In 2019,the standardized incidence rate of gastric cancer among urban residents in Liaoning Province was 15.54/100,000,and the standardized mortality rate of gastric cancer was 10.56/100,000.The incidence and mortality rates of gastric cancer are higher in female than in male before the age of 40 years old.The standardized incidence and mortality rates of gastric cancer in urban residents of Liaoning Province showed a decreasing trend from 2008 to 2019,and the trend was statistically significant(P < 0.05).From 2008 to 2019,the 10-year standardized relative survival rates for both men and women showed an upward trend, with an increase of 2.2% for male and 1.74% for female in 2019 compared to 2008.The 5-year standardized prevalence rate and 10-year standardized prevalence rate of gastric cancer among urban residents in Liaoning Province showed a decreasing trend from 2017 to 2019.The 5-year standardized prevalence of gastric cancer among urban residents in Liaoning Province in 2019 was 37.49/100,000,of which the standardized prevalence among male was 56.16/100,000 and the standardized prevalence among female was 20.02/100,000.The 10-year standardized prevalence rate of gastric cancer among urban residents in Liaoning Province was 61.34/100,000,of which the standardized prevalence rate for male was 90.32/100,000 and for female was34.07/100,000.The disability-adjusted life years(DALY)for gastric cancer in urban residents of Liaoning Province in 2019 was approximately 132,913.22 person-years,and the year of life lost(YLL)due to death from gastric cancer was approximately 124,748.03 person-years,accounting for 93.86% of the DALY.Years of life lost due to disability(YLD)from gastric cancer was approximately 8,165.19 person-years,accounting for 6.14%of DALY.Conclusion: 1.From 2008 to 2019,the standardized incidence and mortality rates of stomach cancer among urban residents in Liaoning Province showed a decreasing trend, which is consistent with the national decreasing trend.2.From 2008 to 2019,the five-year survival rate of urban residents with gastric cancer in Liaoning Province tended to improve, but there is still a gap in the overall survival level compared with that of developed countries.3.The five-year and ten-year standardized prevalence rates of gastric cancer among urban residents in Liaoning Province were higher for male than for female from2017 to 2019.4.The disease burden of gastric cancer in urban residents of Liaoning Province is dominated by the years of life lost(YLL),and the disability-adjusted life years(DALY)of gastric cancer are higher in male than in female.
