| ObjectiveTo persuade patients with periodontitis to quit the betel nut habit,we studied the changes in probing depth(PD)and clinical attachment loss(CAL)before and after treatment in patients who quit betel nut and those who did not quit betel nut.Effects of basic periodontal therapy on stage Ⅱ periodontitis after betel nut cessation were investigated.Methods(1)A total of 492 chronic periodontitis patients were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria.Duration of betel nut chewing, amount of betel nut chewing per day, maximum PD value, maximum CAL value, alveolar bone resorption degree, alveolar bone absorption type, alveolar bone resorption range, root bifurcation condition, number of missing teeth were recorded. The betel nut chewing on periodontitis was analyzed.(2)Inclusion and exclusion criteria were determined, and 105 patients with stage Ⅱ periodontitis were selected for the same basic periodontal treatment and oral health mission.According to the postoperative withdrawal of betel nut,41 patients and 31 cases were determined. The results of PD and CAL before treatment,3 months and 1year after surgery in both groups were analyzed. The effect of betel nut withdrawal on the effect of basic periodontal treatment in patients with stage Ⅱ periodontitis was analyzed.Results(1)The proportion of patients with stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ periodontitis in the betel nut chewing group was higher than that in the non-betel nut chewing group.(2)For patients with stage Ⅱ periodontitis, the PD and CAL in the betel quid cessation group were significantly lower than those in the betel quid chewing group.Conclusion(1)Patients chewing betel nut are more likely to suffer from stage Ⅲ or Ⅳ periodontitis.(2)Quit betel nut chewing can improve the effect of basic periodontal therapy in patients with stage Ⅱ periodontitis. |
