| Objective:To investigate the enamel demineralization and periodontal status in different stages of fixed orthodontic treatment, and to understand the influence of fixed orthodontic treatment on enamel demineralization and periodontal status over time.Methods:100 patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment in Stomatology Hospital of Jilin University were selected according to the inclusion criteria of the study. In order to record the demineralization situation and periodontal condition in each time period, the demineralization degree of each tooth was graded and the depth of periodontal probing, probing bleeding index and plaque index were examined at the initial adhesion(T0),six months after the initial adhesion(T1)and one year after the initial adhesion(T2).Results:1.The enamel demineralization rate and mean EDI values in patients with fixed orthodontic treatment were 14.72%,18.5%,21.52% and 0.0455,0.0601,0.0796,respectively at the initial adhesion(T0),six months after the initial adhesion(T1)and one year after the initial adhesion(T2),showing an increasing trend(P< 0.05).The enamel demineralization rate and severity of the left teeth were greater than those of the right teeth, and the enamel demineralization rate and severity of the maxillary teeth were greater than those of the mandible, and the differences between them were statistically significant(P<0.05).2.The demineralization rates of central and lateral incisors were 42.72% and47.74%,which were the highest among all the teeth in patients with fixed orthodontic treatment.Enamel demineralization occurred most frequently in the gingival region of brackets(62.18%),and primary enamel demineralization was the most common type(78.08%).3.The mean PD and GBI values in patients with fixed orthodontic treatment were 1.3830,1.5280,1.6720 and 0.1867,0.2483,0.3033,respectively at the initial adhesion(T0),six months after the initial adhesion(T1)and one year after the initial adhesion(T2),showing an increasing trend(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in PLI values at the three time points(P>0.05)..Conclusions:1.The severity and rate of enamel demineralization during fixed orthodontic treatment will increase with time. The enamel demineralization rate and severity of the left teeth were greater than those of the right teeth, and the enamel demineralization rate and severity of the maxillary teeth were greater than those of the mandible.2.Maxillary lateral incisors and central incisors are the most common demineralization sites in the process of fixed orthodontic treatment, and the gingival region of brackets was the most common demineralization area, and most of the enamel demineralization was mild.3.In the process of fixed orthodontic treatment, the PD value and GBI value of the patient increased with time, while the PLI value did not change significantly. |
