Objective To explore the effects of an active dyadic coping intervention on healthy behaviors and the quality of life of hemiplegic stroke patients,in an effort to lay the clinical basis for helping patients strengthen their expectations of life, develop healthy behaviors and improve their quality of life. Methods A total of 100 hemiplegic stroke patients, hospitalized in the Neurosurgery Department of North China University of Science and Technology Affiliated Hospital,Tangshan, between August 2020 and August 2021,were included.Randomly the included 100 hemiplegic stroke patients were categorized into the Control Group and the Intervention Group, with 50 patients in each group.Patients of the Control Group received conventional nursing at the Neurosurgery Department while those from the Invention Group received additional dyadic coping intervention apart from conventional nursing. The outcomes were assessed, respectively before the intervention, and at 1 week,1 month and 3 months following the intervention,by using The Locke-Wollance Marriage Adjustment Test(MAT),Herth Hope Scale(HHI),Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale(SS-QOL),Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)and Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD).Results Before the intervention, there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in patient general information, state of illness, general information of their mates, marital affinity, anxiety, depression, level of expectations, healthy behaviors and life quality scores(P>0.05).After the intervention: 1 Martial affinity: at 1 week following the intervention, both patients and their mates of the Intervention Group had slightly higher MAT scores than those of the Control Group, without statistically significant differences(P>0.05);at 1 month and 3 months following the intervention, both patients and their mates of the Intervention Group had significantly higher MAT scores than those of the Control Group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).2 Anxiety and depression: at 1 week,1 month and 3 months following the intervention, patients of the Intervention Group had unexceptionally lower scores in anxiety and depression compared with those of the Control Group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).3 Level of expectations: at 1 week,1 month and 3 months following the intervention, patients of the Intervention Group had significantly higher scores in level of expectations than those of the Control Group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).4 Healthy behaviors among the stroke patients: at 1 week,1 month and 3 months following the intervention, there were statistically significant differences between the two groups in the avoidance of risky environment, the extent of bad habit withdrawal and total healthy behavior scores(P<0.05);at 1 week,1 month and 3 months following the intervention, there were statistically significant differences between the two groups in basic healthy behaviors, health care behaviors and forewarning behaviors(P<0.05).5 The quality of life: at 1week,1 month and 3 months following the intervention, patients of the Intervention Group had significantly higher life quality scores than those of the Control Group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Intra-group comparisons: except that there were no statistically significant differences in marital adjustment level within the Control Group(P>0.05),unexceptionally there were statistically significant differences for both groups in other indexes(P<0.05);compared with those of the Control Group, the patients and their mates of the Intervention Group had better improvement in the level of marital adjustment, anxiety and depression of patients, the level of expectations of life, healthy behaviors and the quality of life. Conclusion Active dyadic coping intervention works effectively in easing the anxiety and depression of patients, strengthening their confidence in life, facilitating the affinity between patients and their mates, improving healthy behaviors of patients and their subsequent quality of life and boosting the recovery of patients. It is of clinically referential value to a certain extent.Figure11;Table16;Reference138...
