Objective Inguinal hernia repair is one of the common operations in surgery.Studies have shown that the use of local anesthesia for inguinal hernia repair reduces morbidity, procedure time, and cost burden compared with general anesthesia, but there is no consensus among surgeons regarding the choice of inguinal hernia repair. This study aims to explore and compare the effects of local anesthesia(LA)and general anesthesia(GA)on complications, operation time, postoperative hospital stay, and readmission rate after open inguinal hernia repair,so as to provide a reference for surgical anesthesia selection.Method The data of 465 patients with open inguinal hernia repair performed in our hospital from January 2019 to December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed, including 359 cases(77.20%)in the local anesthesia group and 106 cases(22.79%)in the general anesthesia group. All surgeries were performed by the same medical team using the same surgical approach. The SPSS software was used to compare and analyze the operation time, hospitalization time, and postoperative complications.Result The basic data of 465 patients undergoing open inguinal hernia repair were analyzed, and no significant differences were found between local anesthesia and general anesthesia in age, gender, hernia type and past history, and the two groups were comparable. In the analysis of the effect of anesthesia on the operation time of open inguinal hernia repair, the average operation time of the local anesthesia group was 64.54 minutes, and the general anesthesia group was 86.80 minutes, the difference was significant(P<0.01);in the average hospitalization time, the local anesthesia group The average hospitalization time was 4.18 days, and the general anesthesia group was 6.48 days, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01);Significant difference(P=0.53);In the complication study, there was no significant difference between local anesthesia and general anesthesia in seroma, hernia recurrence rate and chronic pain(P>0.05),but in other incision complications, urine retention, nausea There were significant differences in recovery of intestinal function(P<0.05).Conclusion The results of this study show that local anesthesia is more effective than general anesthesia in terms of operation time, hospital stay, and early postoperative complications in open inguinal hernia repair. |
