Objective:To discuss the advantage and feasibility of tension-free herniorrhaphyunder local infiltration anesthesia in inguinal hernia patients. Methods:The clinical dataand follow-up data of the patients, who accepted tension-free herniorrhaphy for inguinalhernia under local infiltration and epidural anesthesia during the period betweenDecember2009and September2011were reviewed. Results: As to the local infiltrationanesthesia group, the total hospital stay was (8.26±1.88)d.That was significantly shorterthan epidural anesthesia group (P<0.05). The cost of local anesthesia was(5622.60±565.81)Yuan,that was much less than the cost of epidural anesthesia group(6965.52±938.44)Yuan, P<0.001.31patients(58.30%) in epidural anesthesia group had tohave Urinary catheterization while six patients had to have that (19.40%) in localinfiltration group, P<0.001. Five patients in epidural anesthesia group and two patientsin local infiltration group occurred wound infection, and cured before leaving. There areseven patients in epidural group and six patients in local infiltration group had happenedHematoma. There are20patients in epidural group and nine patients in local infiltrationgroup had numbness on the operating area at three month after operation. There were norecurrences in two groups. Conclusion:LocaI anesthesia may be the more safe anesthesiaprocedure during tension free, meanwhile the length of stay.the cost of hospitalizationcan be reduced by using local infiltration anesthesia....
