ObjectiveIn this study, the head of adults of Han nationality in Liaoning Province was reconstructed by MRI,and the volume of brainstem and cerebellum was quantitatively measured and analyzed by manual measurement,semi-automatic measurement and automatic measurement,so as to provide a new method for clinicians to diagnose brain diseases, improve the accuracy of diagnosis and improve the practicability and maneuverability of measurement techniques. This paper attempts to establish a standard system of brainstem and cerebellar volume in normal adults,so as to provide a more convenient and accurate method for clinical diagnosis and differentiation of brain structural volume abnormalities.MethodsAccording to the inclusion criteria, the craniofacial MRI data of 100 adult subjects of Han nationality in Liaoning Province,China(50 males and 50females)were collected. The superior and inferior diameter, left and right diameter, anterior and posterior diameter, pons transverse diameter, cerebellar transverse diameter, cerebellar sagittal height, brainstem volume and cerebellar volume were measured by manual,semi-automatic and automatic measurement, and the gender differences and trends of the data were analyzed.Pearson correlation analysis and intra-group correlation coefficient(ICC)were used to analyze the correlation of the measurement results of the three methods.Bland-Altman scatter plot was used to analyze the consistency.Results1.The pearson correlation between semi-automatic measurement, automatic measurement and manual measurement of brain volume showed that the correlation r values of pearson between semi-automatic measurement and manual measurement of cranial volume, brainstem volume and cerebellar volume were 0.822,0.961 and 0.983 respectively. The correlation r values of pearson between automatic measurement and manual measurement of cranial volume, brainstem volume and cerebellar volume were 0.832,0.898 and 0.922,respectively.2.The ICC correlations between semi-automatic measurement, automatic measurement and manual measurement of brain volume showed that the ICC values of semi-automatic measurement and manual measurement of cranial volume, brainstem volume and cerebellar volume were 0.894,0.951 and 0.921,respectively,and the correlation ICC values of automatic measurement of cranial volume, brainstem volume and cerebellar volume with manual measurement were 0.884,0.77 and 0.878,respectively.Bland-Altman scatter plot shows that the consistency between semi-automatic measurement and manual measurement is higher than that of automatic measurement.3.The results of manual,semi-automatic and full-automatic measurem ent of brain volume show that the values of manual measurement,semi-a utomatic measurement and full-automatic measurement of brainstem volum e are 25888.51±2577.76mm~3,26784.59±2887.17mm~3 and 28520±3329.66 m m~3,respectively.The values of manual,semi-automatic and automatic mea surement of cerebellar volume were 129.48±12.08cm~3,136.05±11.76cm~3 an d 136.51±11.48cm~3.There was no significant difference between semi-auto matic measurement and manual measurement(P>0.05).Conclusions1.There is a high correlation between the results of semi-automatic measurement and manual measurement of brainstem and cerebellar volume.Semi-automatic measurement and automatic measurement can be applied to the quantitative analysis of brainstem and cerebellum.Mark.2.Compared with the automatic measurement method, the results of semi-automatic measurement of brainstem and cerebellum volume are more consistent with those of manual measurement, and the correlation is higher,so it is more suitable for clinical application.3.The transverse diameter of pons is significantly correlated with the volume of brain stem and cerebellum, suggesting that the transverse diameter of pons can be used as a primary screening index to evaluate the morphological changes of brainstem and cerebellum.
