ObjectiveThis study aims to develop the basic psychological needs satisfaction scale for stroke patients based on basic psychological needs theory, and to verify the reliability and validity of the scale, which provides a tool for evaluating the satisfaction of basic psychological needs of stroke patients.Methods1.Construction of the item pool.Literature review and qualitative interview were constructed to form the item pool. From November to December 2021,qualitative interviews were conducted with stroke patients in a tertiary hospital in Guangzhou, using purposive sampling and maximum difference sampling. The interview data were analyzed by directed content analysis.2.Preliminary development of the scale. From March to May 2022,experts from related fields were invited to two rounds of Delphi expert consultation, and the items were modified according to the item screening criteria and the experts’ opinions. Then,in August 2022,stroke patients were recruited to the scale pre-survey.According to the revision opinions put forward by patients and the results of face validity test, the items were modified expressively, and the scale was initially formed.3.Item screening. From September to November 2022,stroke patients were recruited from 5 hospitals in Guangzhou for questionnaire survey using the convenience sampling method. The resulting sample was equally divided into two parts by random numbers.Sample 1 was used for item screening.Six item analysis methods and exploratory factor analysis(EFA)were used to form the final version of the scale.4.Reliability and validity test. The data of sample 2 were used to test the reliability and validity of the scale.Cronbach’s a coefficient and split-half reliability were used to evaluate the reliability, and content validity, construct validity and criterion validity were used to evaluate the validity.Results1.Construction of the item pool.Through the results of literature review and qualitative interviews, the research team identified a scale item pool of 40 items in 3 dimensions.2.Preliminary development of the scale. The expert positive coefficients were 88.24%and 100%,the authority coefficients were 0.82 and 0.86,and the Kendall’s concordance coefficients were 0.183 and 0.118(P<0.01),after 2 rounds of Delphi expert consultation.According to item screening criteria and experts’ opinions,a scale with 3 dimensions containing 23 items was finally formed. And 4 items were modified expressively through the pre-survey.3.Item screening. After the item analysis method,2 items were deleted. The remaining 21 items were entered into the EFA,and 4 factors with eigenvalues>1 were extracted and named as the need for autonomy, competence, care, and communication, respectively. And the cumulative variance contribution accounted to 62.047%.Finally,the 4-dimension,13-item Basic Psychological Needs Scale for Stroke Patients was formed.4.Reliability and validity test. The Cronbach’s a coefficient of the total scale was 0.775,and the split-half reliability coefficient was 0.789.The item-level content validity index(I-CVI)ranged from 0.889 to 1,and the average scale-level content validity index(S-CVI/Ave)was 0.983.A satisfactory model was achieved in the confirmatory factor analysis(χ2/df=1.481,RMSEA=0.062,CFI=0.923,IFI=0.927,GFI=0.913).The Basic Psychological Needs Scale in Chinese version was used as the criterion scale, and the correlation coefficient between two scales was 0.756(P<0.01).ConclusionThis study developed a 4-dimension,13-item basic psychological needs satisfaction scale for stroke patients, and preliminarily verified that it has good reliability and validity, which can determine the basic psychological needs of stroke patients. |
