| ObjectiveThis study investigated the current situation of male nurses’ psychological resilience, social support and decent work, analyzed the differences in score of the psychological resilience, social support and decent work, and the relationship of the three in general demographic data, discussed the mediating effects of the male nurses psychological resilience between social support and decent work perception,to provide a mediating effect to improve their professional identity and reduce the turnover rate.MethodThe method of cross-sectional investigation was applied. From September 2021 to December 2021,233 in service male nurses from some secondary and tertiary general hospitals in 21 provinces and cities in China were selected by convenience sampling. The self-made general situation questionnaire,connor-davidsonr elasticity scale(CD-RISC),perceived social support scale(PSSS),and decent work perception scale(DWPS)were used to conduct the questionnaire survey.SPSS21.0 and AMOS23.0 were used for statistical analysis of the collected data, including descriptive statistical analysis, independent sample T-test,one-way ANOVA analysis, least significant difference(LSD),Pearson correlation analysis, multiple linear stepwise regression analysis and constructing structural equation model.Result1.The total average score of male nurses was(78.41±11.21),which was at a moderate level, the average score of each dimension ranged from high to low were:working atmosphere, organizational status, career recognition, career development, workload and work return,(3.42±0.56),(3.22± 0.84),(3.20±0.81),(3.17±0.39),(2.76± 0.58),(2.73± 0.84)respectively;Total average score of psychological resilience was(71.36 ± 8.31),and it was at an upper-average level. The average score of the three dimensions from high to low were:tenacity, strength and optimism,for(2.84 ± 0.57),(2.59± 0.54)and(2.52± 0.53)respectively.Total average social support score was(60.86±9.00),and it was at the upper-average level. The average score of the three dimensions from high to low were:family support, friend support, other support,for(5.18 ± 1.04),(5.09±1.13),and(5.01± 1.41),respectively.2.Results from the independent samples t-test or one-way ANOVA showed that, the difference of male nurses’ nursing age, professional title, position, number of night shifts, monthly income, employment form and hospital grade, the perceived scores of decent labor, were statistically significant(P<0.05).Male nurses’ vary in age, nursing age, educational background, professional title, position, and the number of night shifts, there were differences in their psychological resilience scores, statistically significant(P<0.05);Different age, nursing age, professional title, position, monthly income, marital status and employment form, they were also differ in their social support scores, statistically significant(P<0.05,P<0.01).3.Pearson correlation analysis showed that the total score of psychological resilience and all dimensions were positively correlated with the total score of decent work and all dimensions(r=0.296~0.671;P<0.05,P<0.01);the total score of psychological resilience and all dimensions of social support and all dimensions(r=0.389~0.775;P<0.05,P<0.01);and the total score of social support and the total score of decent work and all dimensions(r=0.382~0.920;P<0.05,P<0.01).Multiple linear stepwise regression analysed that strength(β=0.19,P<0.001),resilience(β=0.17,P<0.05),optimism(β=0.18,P<0.05),family support(β=0.13,P<0.05),friend support(β=0.22,P<0.001),and other support(β=0.22,P<0.001)were the predictors of decent work perception among male nurses, explaining 49%of the variation.4.The structural equation model was used to explore the mediating role of psychological resilience. The fitting indicators of the structural equation model in this study were:CMIN/DF=1.422,CFI=0.987,GFI=0.935,AGFI=0.907,NFI=0.955,IFI=0.987,and RMSEA=0.041.Psychological resilience played a partial mediation between social support and decent work perception, with a mediation effect size of 0.15 and the proportion of mediation effect of 30.61%.Conclusion1.The perception score of male nurses was at the middle level, with equal score of all dimensions, the highest score was in work atmosphere dimension and the lowest score was in work return dimension. The social support score was on the middle level, with the family support dimension scoring the highest and other support dimensions scoring the lowest. The psychological resilience score was at the average level of each dimension, with the tenacity dimension scoring the highest and the optimism dimension scoring the lowest.2.There were significant differences in the perceived level of decent work, psychological resilience, and social support among male nurses with different demographic characteristics.3.There were all significant positive associations between male nurses’ perception of decent work, psychological resilience and social support.Optimism of psychological resilience, strength, resilience dimensions, and social supports like family support, friend support, and other dimensions of support were important predictors of the perception of decent work.4.Psychological resilience of male nurses played a partial mediating role between social support and the perception of decent work. The social support of male nurses can either directly exert an influence on their perception of decent work or indirectly through psychological resilience. |
