Objective Through the research and analysis of Volker Scheid’s series achievements of TCM culture, the author analyzes Volker Scheid’s thinking of studying the history of TCM culture as the "other" in TCM culture. The characteristics, anthropological methods and significance of overseas TCM research were summarized. Methods By using the literature synthesis method,CNKI,Wanfang,PubMed and other databases were used to collect and screen relevant academic researches of Volker Scheid, such as "depression syndrome","menopausal syndrome",and anthropology of TCM;By inductive analysis and studying Volker Scheid’s series of achievements, the characteristics, anthropological methods and significance of overseas TCM research are summarized. Results 1.Chinese Medicine in Contemporary China:Plurality and Synthesis discusses the current situation of contemporary TCM clinical practice, reflecting the development of TCM in an independent and adaptive framework.Nowadays, the standardization of TCM restricts the innovation of TCM to a large extent, while the diversity and synthesis of TCM can provide patients with more choices.2.Currents of Tradition in Chinese Medicine,16262006 discusses the development process of Menghe Medical School, which reflects that TCM currents of learning and medical schools are the carriers for the continuation and development of the core academic thoughts of TCM.Their construction and development not only need the subjective initiative of doctors, but also need the intervention and management of the state.3.Other studies on TCM culture discuss diseases, doctors and TCM knowledge management, which reflects the important position of syndrome differentiation thinking in the process of TCM theory enrichment and deepening. However, excessive restoration of TCM will make it lose part of its clinical value and ignore its deep cultural connotation.4.Volker Scheid’s research combines history, anthropology and TCM,with the nature of interdisciplinary; The case studies and ethnographic studies involved are diachronic, reflecting and reviewing the culture of TCM through objective historical facts, and exposing the problems in the transmission of TCM culture, which is also the focus of the disseminators of TCM.Conclusions Volker Scheid,a TCM scholar and anthropologist, studied the theory and history of TCM from an anthropological perspective with anthropological methods, which promoted the international spread of TCM.
